AD: Davis committed to UNC

North Carolina athletics director Dick Baddour has a longstanding policy not to discuss whether any other school has called him to inquire about a coach, or whether he has called any school to ask about one of their coaches. So when asked Monday whether Tennessee has asked permission to talk to football coach Butch Davis about its head coaching vacancy, Baddour said he wanted to stick with that policy. However, "Coach Davis has spoken clearly and loudly about his commitment to North Carolina," Baddour said. "All of us, especially Coach Davis, are so focused on the team and this week's game at Maryland -- and I'm just so proud and happy for this program, and what he has done."

Stop worrying... he's staying at NC

Come over to Auburn

I'd bet Davis talked to his good friend and former coaching staff member Greg Schiano at some point. This is the same stuff Schiano went through when he was the big name to fill coaching openings a few years back. I always thought Schiano was smart to stay at Rutgers (and still do believe it or not) and I think Davis is smart to stay at UNC. Good for the 'Heels fans!

Don't worry. You are getting Buster Brown's brother, Tommy.

November 11, 2008  11:07 AM ET

Committed for now. Just for now.

November 11, 2008  11:10 AM ET

I wonder how many $$$ would make him uncommitted?

November 11, 2008  11:20 AM ET

Committed? Awww, that's cute. Yeah, he's committed to UNC like your average high school geek is committed to his average-looking girlfriend... until the Prom Queen asks him to dance. Then it will be, "Listen, I really care about you, but I think we need to start coaching other people."

Committed to the highest bidder that is , eyesWIDEopen you nailed it.

He would be crazy to go to the SEC. If he can run the table in the ACC in the next couple of years, he would have a legit shot at playing for a national championship. The SEC is a juggernaut and he would never be playing for a title. If he makes it to the NC game out of the ACC, he would have huge offers....then take the money and run.

November 11, 2008  02:45 PM ET

committed like he was to Miami eh - then bolted for a "better opportunity" ...

I have a feeling Auburn and Clemson are just trading Tommy's.

November 11, 2008  04:15 PM ET

This is ridiculous, He's staying for at least four years, he wants to see his program bring hurt on the SEC. Read his press releases on Tarheelblue.com .

November 11, 2008  05:06 PM ET

His next stop is for Jerry Jones and the Cowboys. Mark that down.

November 11, 2008  05:21 PM ET

CAROLINA IS COMMITTED TO PAYING HIM A LOT OF MONEY. tHEY MADE THE MISTAKE WITH mACK bROWN OF LOWBALLING HIM BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT TRYING TO BE FOOTBALL SCHOOL. THEY WON'T MAKE THAT SAME MISTAKE TWICE.

November 11, 2008  08:21 PM ET

nyccharlie, you hit that right. Mack Brown leaving UNC shocked a lot of Tarheel boosters and fans. They had no idea what it meant to play with the big boys in college FB. If Davis leaves UNC, it won't be because Carolina didn't offer a big enough pot of gold.

Buster Brown = Terry "I Lay All My Secretaries" Bowden. Thus, the brother, Tommy "7&5" Bowden. Bill Oliver, DC for Auburn during the wonderful Bowden error called him Buster Brown.

Defensive Schemes are "questionable at best". Maybe so. But those questionable schemes have them leading the nation in interceptions (17), and tops in the ACC in turnover margin (+12). I'll take "questionable" when it comes to Butch. I can't wait until he thinks of some "really good" or "effective" defensive schemes.

Cokers BCS Title with "THE U" in 2001. Was Butch's team. They didn't look too much like Dog Crap.
