Neuheisel: Washington would be better with me

Any bitterness percolating in the Husky Stadium air Saturday, Rick Neuheisel says, will be strictly traveling one-way. The former Washington football coach, now with UCLA, says he has moved on from the messy ending to his UW coaching career. The memories he carries from his four-year Washington tenure are overwhelmingly fond ones, he says. Neuheisel said he anticipates a negative reaction from UW fans Saturday when the Bruins come to town for a 7:15 p.m. kickoff. He also said things would have be different if he had stayed in Seattle. "I know this -- I believe I can recruit and I enjoy it, and so I believe I would have kept Washington at the top of the heap," he said. "That's just me talking about it. But I'm going to defend myself because all I have is my track record to go on. We'd had four winning seasons and I believe we would have kept it going."

OK

at 0-9 they couldn't be worse...not sticking your neck out too far there

Rick is a dick. I can't wait to see USC put up 70.

November 11, 2008  10:50 AM ET

Without a doubt, Wash would had done better with him and UCLA would be better off now.

November 11, 2008  11:08 AM ET

With that record it's easy for him to say that.

November 11, 2008  01:07 PM ET

Seems like a childish thing to say Ricky. Move on.

UW could only be better. What they would likely be is in trouble with the NCAA for recruiting violations and banned from bowls. There is a reason a coach of his "cailber" didn't receive a sniff from NCAA schools for 5 years following his firing.

Nice insight.

You'd think that fannation would find a better picture, but I'm just nit-picking.

He was one of the better coaches UW has had. He was known for winning games they weren't supposed to, also for 4th qtr come from behind wins and had the Huskies 12-1 and ranked 3rd itc at one point. Look at where were at now. This year we'll finish 1-11 AT BEST.
Hmmm.... 1-11 or 12-1? Which one sounds better to you?

November 11, 2008  03:09 PM ET

Saying stuff like that only goes to prove what a classless jerk Neuheisel is.....

November 11, 2008  03:13 PM ET

Rick would have had UW gunning for the Pac-10 title every year. To bad it didn't work out.

Exactly what did he say in the above story that was so bad, do you even read it?
He did not bad talk anyone, he just said he'd have kept them on top of the heap.

November 11, 2008  04:50 PM ET

Spoken like a true narcissist. Well done Ricky.

If I were still in Seattle I would be cheering for RN. He won us a Rose Bowl and he could have won more. No matter what he'd have been better than Lionel Losingham.

November 11, 2008  05:21 PM ET

When UW plays WSU I predict a tie. They will have to give up after about 20 OTs because neither team will be able to score.

November 11, 2008  06:12 PM ET

why does anyone want to blame the Old AD Barbara Hedges................she was in charge when the wheels all started falling off.

GO RICKY N!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
