Padres shopping players

The Padres were so bad last year that general manager Kevin Towers seems to be putting most everyone up for auction. First baseman Adrian Gonzalez would seem untouchable given that he is young, productive, and cost-effective, but the Padres also have a power-hitting prospect in the 6-foot-6-inch, 270-pound Kyle Blanks, a 21-year-old slugger who has knocked in 100 or more runs in each of the last two minor league seasons. Already, the Red Sox reportedly inquired about a deal that would send Coco Crisp to the Padres for shortstop Khalil Greene, though, obviously, the Padres would have made that deal by now if it had any real appeal to them.

Jeez, I know Crisp hasn't been everything the Red Sox expected. But to trade him for Greene? That's gotta make a guy feel really good...

I get way to sentimental about some of these players. I really like Coco ... would hate to see him go. I know nothing about this Greene fellow but ... is he worth it?

Khalil Greene was supposed to be a stud, but never really got to that plateau. Came into the bigs in 03'. Batting average hovering around .250 (big deal) but he has some pop in his bat (~16 HRs/yr) and has a good fieling percentage and range. A change of scenery may help him realize his potential.

I watched him play his college ball, he was a stud back then.
He is probably the best defensive shortstop in the game right now. I've seen him in a few weekend series where SportsCenter could do a top 25 plays of the weekend and he would take up 20 slots.

A move to a big market like Boston and getting out of the no-one-knows you exist Padres would make him very well known.

Adrian Gonzalez, 1B 280 aver, 36 taters, 119 RBI, hmmmm very interesting. Is he alot less than 20 mil a year, a la Tex out of the Angels, FA.? What would a team have to give up? prospects? Young Pitchers? Just a thought. But very interesting...

Padres would be stupid to trade Gonzo. I don't understantd why they HAVE to trade Peavy. I do hope the Braves get him....

Damn Coram, Cashman should check in with you refarding these trades. Hey years ago I had a friend from Shirley, we carpooled to work, with a bunch of other guys. started calling each other by the name of the town we all came from on the way into the city. I was ronkonkoma, my other friend was Coram, and the other was Shirley. the guy from Shirley took offense. One day we all got out at exit 49 and kicked and punched each other, until Shirley made coram say his name. ( it was Bill) we arrived for work brused. Coram had a tooth missing, I had a bloody nose, and shirley broke his wrist. That was a fekkking fun car pool, oh did I mention there was a lot of beer drinking?
