Brady lifts Patriots' spirits

Tom Brady's presence at Gillette Stadium has been uplifting to some of his Patriots teammates. "He's in great spirits," quarterback Matt Cassel said. "He's just healing and getting better." Yesterday wasn't the first day Brady was at the stadium to work out, although the presence of a black Red Sox cap and a knee brace at his locker tipped off reporters to his whereabouts. "It's good to see him around, hanging out, smiling," defensive end Jarvis Green told the Associated Press. "It looks like he's in a good mood. I just spoke to him a few times, joked with him, but it looks like he's OK." At this point, it is premature to say that Brady is rigorously rehabbing his left knee, as that must wait until doctors are certain his infection has cleared. But Brady can work out to maintain other aspects of his conditioning. "It's just good to hear his voice," rookie running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis said.

Okay he's back but more importantly, will he be ready for Week 1, 2009?

November 12, 2008  06:06 AM ET

10 months to pre-season, and 11 to week one? If he isn't, then the infection was fairly severe, or he ends up getting another procedure.
Barring his inability to return period, he should be back and ready by week one.

Yes but you have to remember that this was a knee injury. Rehabilitation from a knee injury takes months and sometimes an entire year. However before Brady can begin rehab he has to be clear of the infection and as of this point, it continues to linger on.

Also, the NFL season begins before Week 1. Training camp begins mid/late July, followed by four weeks of preseason games. If Brady intends to be ready for Week 1, he needs to be in camp and/or take a few preseason snaps. Although obviously he would get the start, ready or not.

It will also rely on how much he trusts his knee and the trauma would most likely affect his comfort level with the oncoming pass rush.

ACL Reconstructions: Rehab 4-8 Months. 6-12 in the less healthy of us. He has shown in the past the ability to miss training camp if need be. He'll be there for all of the tyeam activities. Conditioning for GENERAL health will be easy as the rehab he goes through on his knee will be intense.
I will concede this point though: Football condintioning (ie sporst specific training) is very difficult. Didn't say week one would be pretty......
Now...... If they are hiding that he tore his POSTERIOR cruciate ligament... or both... then all bets are off. Whole different ballgame there...

what a picture isnt this article about Tom Brady? If it is why is there a picture of Matt Casle

November 12, 2008  08:04 AM ET

he lifted their spirits by showing naked pics of his woman "taking care" of him. That even got Belicheck's cold dead heart pumping again..........is is doing a good coaching job this year though i hate to admit it. Hopefully Brady gets better and clears up that "staph infection"

November 12, 2008  09:03 AM ET

I think they are moving along fine without him...why bring the distractions...

November 12, 2008  09:06 AM ET

brady is no distraction. he is undeniable leader of this football team.

November 12, 2008  09:48 AM ET

He brought in big glossy prints of Giselle's photo shoot from American Photo mag to boost moral. Way to go TB!

November 12, 2008  10:06 AM ET

Hey, wasn't Tom photographed with Gisele wearing a Yankee cap?

November 12, 2008  11:17 AM ET

Did Brady lift his knee also?

November 12, 2008  11:45 AM ET

I don't expect Brady to be at the right situation next year. This is his real first injury that sidelined him. So I think they should move on. Brady was great this time last year. But players who come off this injury do ok but there not the same.

nope, it's aMatt Cassell pic with a Tom Brady label....good job FN

how great would it be if the Patriots had a guy on their team named Ben Ellis? They already have BenJarvus Green-Ellis, and a Jarvis Green so they just need a Ben Ellis and their team is set.

That's true. There is always a chance that Brady's injury could turn into smokescreens and mirrors. The Bill Belichick regime has been infamous for erroneous injury reporting.
