Schools recruiting Favre's nephew

An undersized junior quarterback with a sizable pedigree just set the Mississippi state high school record for most touchdown passes in a single season -- 43 -- with at least one playoff game left to be played. His name is Dylan Favre. His uncle plays quarterback for the New York Jets. Dylan broke the old record with five touchdown passes in St. Stanislaus High School's game last week against Poplarville. Listed anywhere from 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet, Dylan has not received much interest from colleges, though he has received standard-issue letters from UCLA, Notre Dame, Mississippi and Southern Mississippi.

What is everyone's obsession with tall QB's???

November 12, 2008  08:54 AM ET

He's not very tall but he put together a great season in Mississippi. He's more than likely going to Southern Miss the same school his father and legendary Uncle (beat the Pats tomorrow, please!!!) went to.

why not take him

they can see over the offensive and defensive lines better

November 12, 2008  09:49 AM ET

If he's 6'-0" then he's tall enough. He'll play NFL someday, if he doesn't get hurt.

Brett Favre is listed at 6'-2", Doug Flutie was listed at 5'-10" (although he went undrafted). Joe Montana was 6'-2".

They don't all have to be 6'-5 to throw the ball but 5'-10" will probably be considered too short.

November 12, 2008  10:08 AM ET

they'll move him to slot receiver ...

November 12, 2008  10:09 AM ET

I think the real question is can he throw INT's like his Uncle Favre?

November 12, 2008  11:24 AM ET

Not to mention, generally taller is 'bigger'..can take more punishment than someone 5'10 or so. Remember those DBs are HUGE...I wouldn't want someone 6'4 and 300lbs falling on ME..lol

They generally can see over their offensive line to see which receiver is open. It also helps when they get sacked so they don't crumble at the first hit.

Favre's nephew is not Brett...who cares.

He is ok. They run the spread offense, w/o alot of running. He should get some D1 offers.

Drew Brees is the only one on this list worth a damn. Maybe Doug Flutie but that's about it.

November 12, 2008  03:39 PM ET

He might play or might not...he's just not sure at the moment

November 12, 2008  03:47 PM ET

Exactly and Flutie's best years were NORTH of the border.

"Size does matter, your wife told me that after you left for work!"

Oh damn that's funny!!!!!

And why do some think he will play in the NFL? Chris Leak tore up the high school football field as well. So have many others that never got any closer than the stands to an NFL field.
