Inside ASU's recruiting haul
Trent Lockett - ranked by Scout.com as the country's 18th best shooting guard - was the only recruit to sign with ASU on the first day of a week-long initial signing period, but another should do so soon. Ruslan Pateev, a 7-foot, 240-pound center at Montverde Academy in Florida, announced his intention to attend ASU, but his letter of intent first had to be sent to his parents in Russia. Pateev averaged 10 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks per game last season. The Sun Devils could sign up to two more, but Jared Cunningham, a point guard from San Leandro, Calif., likely won't be among them. Cunningham committed to ASU in October 2007 but recently decided to pursue other options.

not hard to recruit? try being ~100 miles north of one of the best basketball schools of the past decade. Sendek deserves praise for turning around the program at ASU as UofA fades.

the only reason ASU is getting decent recruits is that the school to the south is having a coaching disaster. Sendek is a good coach but it will take him time to adjust to the west coast recruiting style. If UOFA lands a big name coach over the off-season, ASU will be in recruiting trouble again.
