Hunter picking Bulls over Mavs?

There are now reports that have Dallas engaging in conversation with former Pistons guard Lindsey Hunter, who is a free agent. But if you are a betting man, take my advice and assume that Hunter won't be playing for Dallas on Thursday -- but that instead he'll be playing against them. That's right. I'm told the Bulls -- presently playing without the injured Kirk Hinrich and Hughes and desperately thin at guard as they prepare to host the Mavs tomorrow -- are confident they will sign Hunter today.

Playing or sitting on the bench? At this stage of his career he is a bench player with sign "In case of emergency"

Sure he is just a role player, but you will love him. It's hard not to. Hunter is a class act and brings it every play. It would be tough to see him in anything but the Piston blue. He also brings tons of value as a mentor to younger guards.

Id say its a good pickup if you just wanna sign him base....

Defense is the key with that guy...he was taught defense in detroit as a staple of his basketball savvy...

then again im always skeptic with singing these guys because well..there IS a reason why he's a free agent after all...

I thought Hunter retired?

He's a solid role player good for a few minutes a game. The Bulls should bring him in and have him toughen up Rose a bit.

November 13, 2008  10:50 AM ET

Yeah, and what do the Bulls intend to do when Hinrich returns? The whole roster is full of guards. Unless they're building playground team, this doesn't sound like the answer. Hunter brings defense and veteran leadership, but 10 minutes a game from a 38 year old veteran won't help much.

November 13, 2008  11:07 AM ET

I don't see why Dallas would even be interested in him unless they had a trade planned with multiple players. Everyone knows where the biggest weakness is in Dallas yet I rarely see them going for a big man to take Damp's spot. Ughhhh..

November 13, 2008  11:18 AM ET

The Bulls will probably pull the tirgger on this one. The move gives Rose rest and that's all they care about at this point. Hunter is a solid defender and brings veteran leadership to the team. He could play 10-12 minutes a game for Chi town.

November 13, 2008  11:38 AM ET

phew, must be nice...get a cool mill(or more) just to play 5 minutes a game. thats all he's going to do and Pax and co. have already admitted to such. Rose can't play 48 every night but they want somebody who can take over for the other 6-8 minutes he's not on the floor. not a big signing but if Hunter is the "class act" people say...then it's beneficial to Rose as well because he's a long time veteran at PG. when hinrich comes back...Hunter will probably be traded in a package deal

by the way, the Trib is already reporting he's going to sign with da bulls so...the Mavs thing is done with. not sure if he'll play tonite though vs. the Mavs

Why would Hunter go to two teams that do not have a chance to win the nba championship, it must be about the money for him, common sense would be to go to a team such as the Lakers, Rockets or the Celtics who stand a chance of winning. Hunter in Chicago would be a mistake; Hunter still has some basketball in him left being a back up point guard.

On a good team-
who really needs hunter?????

Probably spurs while Tony's out....but he really is
basicaly useless

November 13, 2008  12:19 PM ET

Wow i didnt think i was going to see Hunter playing again.

November 13, 2008  12:42 PM ET

Remember when the Bulls had too many guards and now they don't have enough...ha ha

Balance!!!

November 13, 2008  12:51 PM ET

Why aren't the Suns in the picture? Yeah right, they don't have defensive problems anymore.

November 13, 2008  01:53 PM ET

Why is Dallas always tied up to rumors about acquring old washed up players that are old enough to be our grandfathers.

Send him to the Knicks and problem solved.

November 13, 2008  03:01 PM ET

November 14, 2008  03:16 AM ET

with a lot of players going down with injuries, retired players are having a chance to play again.

Hunter is already way over his head. This is a desperate money making move.
