The chances of the Angels retaining record-setting closer Francisco Rodriguez went from slim to virtually none today, with owner Arte Moreno saying, "We're turning the page on this one." Moreno did not rule out the possibility of the Angels pursuing Dodgers slugger Manny Ramirez if they are unable to sign free-agent first baseman Mark Teixeira, who is the team's top priority this winter.

When did Manny start taking opera lesson? Grand Opera with agent Scott Boras, I want my moneyyyyyyyyyyy. (bow head, audience applause)

I am sure they would love to add him...but will it help?

November 13, 2008  10:13 AM ET

Even the Angels know the K-Rod was not a top 3 closer last year and does not warrant the money he is "demanding"

November 13, 2008  10:19 AM ET

This makes sence as they like to add an expensive outfielder every year.

..or sense, or cents.

Angels only do this is they lose out on Tex.

November 13, 2008  10:54 AM ET

Booooooooooo Manny.

November 13, 2008  12:47 PM ET

Manny is an IDIOT!!! He has damaged his to badly for any team to want for any great length of time. They all saw what he did in Boston and NOBODY is worth that much hassle! GOOD RIDENCE MANNY!!!!

We all know Manny has wanted to be a Yankee since he was kid. In order for Manny to be a Yankee the following would have to happen: Clean up his act and appearance, settle for being a DH full time, get a hair cut and shave and look human, fix his trousers to look like a ballplayer, clean his batting helment before each game and give a home town discount....yep, that's what has to happen and oh, dump Scott Boras!

Yankees also need to trade Matusi before they pursue Manny. Could you imagine:
Damon
Jeter
Manny
AROD
Texeria
Nady
Cano
Posada
Cabrera

Don't forget Gardner for CF and his base stealing ability. He is still hungry while Cabrera became a big shot and lost his position. Cano and Cabrera need a slap in the head to remind they are very fortunate to be in baseball and making all those big bucks. They have to remember where they came from and what they had before baseball. In other words a wake up call!

Tex and the offense is their priority. Their bullpen is also deep. And I dont agree he is worth what he is seeking. He is top 5.....

Yankees just got Nick Swisher! I am so okay with this and passing on Tex. Swish is a gamer and a Dynasty type player. Lets go trade Matusi to the Giants and pick up MANNY, C.C., and Burnett!!!

I hope Manny signs with the Cubs. They deserve each other.

what is that supposed to mean?

I am not so sure the Swisher acquisition means the end of the Yankees pursuit of Texteria. If I recall Swisher is an excellent OF too and the Yanks need another OF. Maybe this is a ploy by the Yanks to get Texteria and Boras to lower their asking price. If the Yanks are out of the picture it hurts Texteria bid for bigger bucks and it helps the Angels. If it's not a Yankee ploy you can be sure the Yanks will really pursue CC and Burnett and perhaps even Manny.

Was glad to see the Yanks resign Marte. With Marte and Cotes who came up at the end of last year it gives them two very good left-handers in the bullpen something they have lacked since Stanton departed.

The pursuit of free agents should be very interesting this off season.

They both suck, and are an embarassment to baseball.
