Clemens case creates federal turf war

For the last six years, the federal agent Jeff Novitzky has been at the heart of virtually every major investigation into the use of performance-enhancing drugs by professional athletes. Six feet six inches, with a shaved head, Novitzky has also been a physical presence, looming almost larger than life when he testified at court sessions in San Francisco or observed a Congressional hearing in Washington. And yet, Novitzky now finds himself left on the periphery of the perjury investigation into Roger Clemens, according to one person who has been briefed on the matter and a second who has knowledge of the situation. In what amounts to a turf war, that investigation is now being conducted by the United States Attorney's office for the District of Columbia. Meanwhile, Novitzky and prosecutors from the United States Attorney's office for the Northern District of California have been left on the outside looking in, even though it was their efforts that led a Congressional committee to summon Clemens to testify about performance-enhancing drugs and, in turn, led to a committee recommendation that Clemens be investigated for perjury. It was Novitzky who famously rummaged through the trash outside the offices of the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative, who confronted the major league pitcher Jason Grimsley in the doorway of his home and who sat directly across from Clemens's former trainer, Brian McNamee, and compelled him to cooperate with investigators.

Well it looks like old boy Clemens is a bit too late. The public of the sports nation.....thinks you be a lying donkey-headed fool. And dude, you made your family look like fools too. Do not commit the crime unless you be willing to serve the time. One's reputation is likely their most valuable asset. Clemen's is so stupid - he never thought about that...?

People, you have got to read this entire story in the NY Times today! Once again Fannation's picked part of it is not the part that emphasizes its meaning. Basically, in short, it appears there are those at the U.S. Attorney's office in D.C. that are letting Clemens off the hook. Novitsky is merely spectator. Make sure you read the part in this story comparing this case and how the attorney's office in D.C. is handling things compared to the recent case of Alaska criminal senator Ted Stevens. Interesting.

The fact is that both Clemens and McNamee are both pathological liars. However, when this is all said and done, McNamee will probably be the only one going to jail.
