Vince Young's attitude in question

05:57 AM ET 11.14 | These days, the most prominent questions about Vince Young are not about his health (The knee's fine, thank you) but about his attitude. Specifically, fans and those in the media keep noticing Young's conduct and body language on the sideline during games. He seems detached. He participates in pregame warm-ups then appears to retreat into his own little world after kickoff. When the offense comes off the field, you see starter Kerry Collins huddling with offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger as they examine photos of the opposing defense that are transmitted from the press box to the sideline. No. 3 quarterback Chris Simms is an interested participant. Young? He's usually found several steps away, uninvolved. He either doesn't want to be part of the process or is not invited. And I seriously doubt it's the latter. This makes a strange situation even stranger. During practice sessions, Young works extensively with the second-team offense. Since returning to good health, he has been listed as the No. 2 quarterback on game day. But even though he is just one snap away from being the Titans' quarterback again, he seems a million miles away during the game. At Titans Central, the party line remains that Young is merely doing what he should have been allowed to do as a rookie -- observe how a veteran quarterback conducts his business. But from the outside looking in, you must wonder if Young is maximizing this opportunity. Yes, looks can be deceiving, especially on TV, but Young certainly appears detached from this team.

Piss-poor attitudes. He ain't the only one. You have to EARN things in life. You have to take it and you do that by earning it. You do not sit and whine about....stupid crap that nobody cares about anymore. You can do the job or you cannot. Plain and simple.

Is this writer from the Tennessean and body language expert? Its irresponsible reporting when your facts/sources is whats seen on TV. Do some real reporting, you know asking question and conducting interviews and not what you and millions see on TV!

The Titans management is doing everything right. They admitted their mistake and went with Collins. They made it sound like it was just to give Young a chance to get ti together and learn. They have tried to keep his trade value up. He will be quietly put on the market in the off season and they will try to recoup as much as they can for him. Not that easy to do with his contract, but there are always teams out there that are slow to learn, do not believe what they see on the film and will give a second rounder or two for him. Someone like the Lions. That is where this is going.

Who really knows what's going on during the game. I noticed the same thing with Tavaris Jackson who was listening to his iPod on the sidelines instead of holding the clipboard and being glued to the coach's leg. I never noticed where Leinart was at all during the Monday night Cards game either.

Should a backup QB who's been benched in favor of a veteran be attentive and ready for the moment it's their time to go back in? Do they have to be all over the O coordinator to be ready?

When I've seen shots of VY, he's clapping and smiling. This seems like a non-story IMO

this story is hogwash....VY is a gamer....but the media loves to hate on him

Uh, we already went that route with Andre Ware. Of course if Millen was still here, we may well have tried it again...

really? give up on a young QB with as much upside as VY? its a good thing the giants did not think in the moronic way you seem to reason

I don't understand what they expect him to be doing on the sidelines? Nevermind that he was benched....He came from UT where he was showered with love and wins for years. He's not adjusting to this well, so let him be alone!

I was listening to Troy Aikman on the radio yesterday and he was saying that when he was on the sidelines, he would stand off by himself, on the end of the field to get a better shot of what was going on. He couldn't see while in the middle of the pack over there, so people would always talk about what a bad mood he was in or how pissed off he was because he was by himself. Totally not true, he said, he was trying to pay attention to the game.

I hope Vince pulls it together, and transforms into the same player we saw at Texas. He was awesome there

November 14, 2008  07:59 AM ET

It would be one thing if this was the Lions.

But one has to be a Major League a**hole to pull this crap when your team is undefeated past midseason in the NFL.

November 14, 2008  08:06 AM ET

Boo-hoo. The big baby is mad because he cost himself his starting job, possibly for the next 1-2 years, or however long Kerry Collins keeps up his steak of playing well enough to win.

Sito, Sito....The difference is that Giant management saw an upside in Manning. They did not pull him and sit him so he could " learn" from an experienced QB after they replaced Kurt Warner with him in 2004. Once he was put in, he stayed in. The Titans saw plenty of VY. They are not dumb. Not sure they saw much of an " upside", they saw what they figured they would get. Give them credit, they did not go the stubborn route..They know what they saw.
Tell me. If Collins and the team keep doing great this year, how do you take Collins out and replace him with VY next year? That would be MORONIC...Lol.... You don't....That means you pay him big money to sit around another year..
I think they try to move him this off season.

I guess his coach did not see it that way...Good thing for his team...

actually the only reason he is not playing is because he got hurt in the first place. and at that point is common sense that if it is not broke do not fix it...so as long as they keep winning fisher is not going to be making any major changes. that defense is nasty. they are carrying that team, and they would do so wether VY is there or not. when it comes to the playoffs and you need a QB to win the game let's see if good ol' kerry can pull it off. I know VY could. that guy is clutch

November 14, 2008  08:16 AM ET

Actually, I noticed the same thing when I watched the Titans last week. Young looks like he's pouting. And, yes Hank, I have been trained in body language when I was conducting interviews for candidates that needed a Top Secret clearance. Distancing himself from the other QBs and not actively getting involved in the play making decisions shows a lack of maturity on his part. He has a big ego (hence the callous remarks about how he should have been given the Heisman over Bush) and he's been relegated to a position that makes him look bad to the world.

November 14, 2008  08:24 AM ET

This feels like a repost from a while back when he was having those mental struggles. We know his attitude is in question already...next story.

Absolutely not - Brad Johnson and Brooks Bollinger were constantly glued to Jason Garrett and look how that turned out.
