Is Gallinari's injury in his head?

According to those who may not know how to read the results of Danilo Gallinari's two non-fictional MRIs (administered by a New York physician paid by the Knicks, and by a Los Angeles doctor hired by agent Arn Tellem) but who passed English comprehension, the two specialists fully agree the 20-year-old Italian is not a remote candidate for an operation. "It's unclear what's causing the pain to linger and why it keeps re-occurring, which is why we intend to focus on different elements," a Tellem confidant said. "As for the MRIs, both doctors read them the same way, and both concur Danilo does not need to go under the knife." A bloated bulging disc is apt to hit a nerve in the spine, thus the contractions of pain when the body moves or is jarred. X-rays show Gallinari's disc is hardly bulging. Just to be on the safe side, additional MRIs are planned by the Knicks. In view of the findings, some people within the Knicks organization are wondering - not in a wicked way, honest - if Gallinari's distress might be as much mental as physical.

Even if he were healthy, I dont think he would be that good. When the Knicks drafted him, I researched some youtube clips of him in europe, and he did not seem that athletic. Not big or stong enough for the 4, not quick enough for the 3.

Oh give me a break.....
why would the kid not want to play>?

The post obviously makes up crazy stories- but this one is
actually mean-spirited to even suggest the kid is making it up

True NY Post story - rip apart the team while they're trying to rebuild.

Bring back Isiah!

The problem is you cannot improve through trades(nothing to offer). Cannot sign free agents because of cap room. The draft was a way of improving the roster and this happens.

Why would the kid not play? Maybe its because he is a Poosssssy.... Maybe it is just like the Doctors and the MRIs say, imagine that... there isnt much wrong just a little discomfort and he may have to play through the pain a little bit. That might be a little more then he is willing to deal with because... yes thats right he just might be a Pooooossssyyyyy

Obviously they have to dig into this further but this should be good news for him and the Knicks.

At least he does not have a career-ending injury and I'm sure they can give him cortizone shots like they did to Larry Johnson or sugar pills if it's just a mental thing.

I thought he went to the D Leauge what is wrong with this soft euro!

A swift kick works as well as a sugar pill. Oh wait, political correctness is in play. How about a raise and a group hug?

This is the Post gentlemen. Let's not give this story any truth. The kid's injured and even if he wasn't he wouldn't have been much of a factor this season anyway.

He won't play small forward on this squad. Chandler and Q got that covered.

They just need him to bulk up so he can play four or 5 cos he can shoot lights out... I see him becoming like an Okur type player.

He has a very high basketball IQ. Knicks fans will be pleasantly surprised when he gets healthy.

November 14, 2008  09:38 AM ET

yeah too much shouldn't be read into this one. if the kid is hurt he's hurt. to even imply that he's making up an injury or claiming it to be in his head i think is unfair and stupid quite frankly. it was probably a lifelong dream to play in the nba and the kid wants to fulfill that dream. leave him alone let him get healed up and see if he can help.....doubt it though....despite the record the knicks are still crappy

November 14, 2008  09:55 AM ET

This is an excuse for a bad decision, choosing him in the first place. This is a bust. If he can't be "jarred" without reinjury, then he can't play. Why didn't D'Antoni know this before wasting the draft pick?

November 14, 2008  09:58 AM ET

When is the last time a Knick draft pick worked out. Isn't Gallinari one of the prospects Isiah was suppose to be scouting? They should have known if Isiah had anything to do with it, it would turn out badly. At this point, it looks like the Knicks wasted a #6 pick...again.

November 14, 2008  10:27 AM ET

...i think he thought he would come in and take the Big Apple by storm...early comments by him indicated he thought he would start...now that reality jumped up and bit him he's badly demoralized...they said he may even head to the d-league...that had to jar him....he can shoot the lights out, but that's all he does...and who sits? chandler? i don't think so.............

God bless the knicks and their picks on draft night EVERY YEAR

November 14, 2008  10:47 AM ET

The problem with MRIs is that they are done lying done and basketball is played standing up. Wouldn't be surprising if his disk bulges more when he is standing and gives him pain that is worse than expected.

There is a standing MRI, I hope the Knicks are smart enough to utilize it. It's a little more expensive but, Lord knows they have the money.

Maybe Isiah was scouting him but on draft night D'Antoni took full responsibility for this pick. He played with Gallinari's father in Europe and said that he was intimately aware of the Gallinari's ability, toughness, and style of play. He said, even though the fans booed the pick, they were going to be "shocked and amazed."

I'll admit he was at least right about that: I am "shocked" at his lack of skills and I'm "amazed" at how quickly he fell apart.

I was waiting on the "this is Isiah's fault quote". The only question anybody on here should be asking is why did the Knicks draft him? Yeah right Isiah just happened to tell them to draft D'antonio's good friend's son. Who was the last international player Isiah drafted? and then he starts with this guy. I'm not going to bash Gallinari YET! but this is not good you could've picked up somebody better with that pick.

Knicks fans kill me. Knicks haven't won jack since the 70's and that's Isiah's fault too I guess.
