Agent: Hoffman done with Padres

Anyone who thought the rebuilding Padres could resurrect their talks with alltime saves leader Trevor Hoffman after they rescinded their $4-million offer to him -- are you listening Padres president Sandy Alderson? -- should pay attention to what Hoffman's agent, Jeff Borris, just told SI.com. "Hell's Bells will ring no more in Petco Park,'' Borris said, referring to the AC/DC song that's played whenever the legendary closer entered a Padres home game. Borris' comment should close out the idea that the sides could still get together. Meanwhile, the Angels could emerge as a possibility for the Anaheim product Hoffman, who has played only for the Padres after 13 initial games with the Marlins in 1993. Hoffman's late father, Ed, often sang the National Anthem at Angels games when Trevor was a child and the family lived near where the team plays in Anaheim. Angels owner Arte Moreno recently told AM-830 in Southern California that they were "turning the page'' on Francisco Rodriguez, who set the single-season record for saves with 62.

This would make a lot of sense for everyone involved. Gives Angels time to develop a new young closer, keeps Hoffman in Southern Cal.

The classic numbers accumulator......
Tons of saves- but never did ANYTHING in a big spot

great career.....but NOT a hall of famer

They rescind their offer to him, and he's done with them? That feels a lot like "I didn't want to play anyway."

I can't imagine the next time going to Petco Park and not seeing Hoffman stretching, and working out as hard as he does two hours before first pitch. Sad, sad, sad. Please don't hate the actual Padres fans, Trevor.

I knew it once Angels decided not to go after K-Rod and Trevor got that horrible fax. He will be much much cheaper too and Angels can still can go after Mark or Manny and even chip in for another good pitcher.

K Rod could be a Met. They usually overpay for guys.

Make Trevor a Dodger. If Saito doesn't return, Broxton needs another year. He was scary as a closer when Saito went out. Hoffman can still do it, although not as prettily as he once did.
