Padres expanding Peavy search

The Padres have publicly suggested they may need to expand their search for a landing spot for star pitcher Jake Peavy beyond the Braves, Cubs and Dodgers after some believed a deal with Atlanta could be within reach, and the Yankees, along with the Angels, are seen as places Peavy might consider approving. Peavy's agent Barry Axelrod said again in an interview with SI.com that Peavy much prefers the National League and suggested they he would require more financial inducements to accept a deal to teams lower on his preferred list, even beyond a full no-trade. (Peavy now has a complete no-trade but only for the next two years.)

"Peavy much prefers the National League "

now you see- to me that translates to.....
"it's much easier to get outs in the NL- and I'm too much of a wus to try and pitch in a better league"

He's obviously a top pitcher & in his prime- but that statement makes me abit nervous

Can we please just get this over with and get him traded, so Padres fans can prioritize their pain and suffering right now? Freaking torture waiting for the inevitable to happen for Padres fans (all 10 of us left).

CC made the same comment about wanting to stay in the NL. This could mean a change in how these leagues are perceived.

CC said that after he got a taste for hitting and liked it. I don't blame him, that DH stuff is ****.

I wish someone would slap John Mozeliak upside the head and tell him to get busy on a package to bring Peavy to St Louis.

With the money the Angels and Yankees have, Towers may be left waiting until those teams finish their free agent spending sprees. Even then, do they have tradeable talent to get Peavy?

See the big problem with them trading peavy......
they don't want to WIN.

He is locked up to a VERY reasonable deal and is in his PRIME
there is NO REASON to trade him
- they won't get someone 'better' back and
stud farmhands are basically off the table around baseball

- if they think they'll get 3-4 pieces for one player- maybe
but a front end starter is VERY difficult to come by- you simply
DON'T trade them away

Please remove your no trade clause toward the Red Sox we would love to give a Crisp, Bowden, Lowri, prospect package for Peavy. Then Peavy, Beckett, Dice K, Lester, Wake, Buchoulz, Masterson, and prospects. Good team

But the same doesn't apply to Peavy in your eyes? Seems to me like a bit of a double standard.

Exactly. With all the outfielders the Cardinals have, surely a couple of them and a pitcher could bring Peavy.

November 15, 2008  02:15 PM ET

Peavy seems to be acting like a little bihahatch with where he wants to go. Perhaps he is trying to stay in the NL because he knows his era will take a beating in the AL.

November 15, 2008  02:28 PM ET

Towers screwed up. The package will be lame for Peavy now. The Braves are smart to tell Towers to f-off.

November 15, 2008  02:40 PM ET

I think the deal with Peavy will be semi-low considering now the Braves are out of it the quality of return players is going to decrease definitely, and if they deal with the Cubs, they wouldnt get the QUANTITY of players in return either.....anybody else idk if they're willing to part with position starters or much less pitching prospects to get Peavy....Peavy can do wonders but...he dealt with no offense last year...so he has to go to a team that doesnt trade a starting offensive player to them in return....

As far as I know, Peavy didn't say why he wanted to stay in the NL and I didn't imply anything about his reasons in my comment.

Peavy, C.C., Wang, Lowe and Joba.....Oh! and Manny would be nice.

From a dodger fan C.C., Burnett, Billingsley, Kershaw & Randy Johnson would be way better than Peavy, C.C., Wang, Lowe and Joba for the Yanks

November 16, 2008  05:40 AM ET

But both Starting 5 wont happen..... wishful thanking ocalaca100

QUOTE(#16):

I just cannot see Peavy going to NY. I don't think he wants to go there. I think Atlanta, St. Louis, Houston or Milwaukee, and perhaps the Cubs. Also, I think Cincinnati could come into this at some point as a darkhorse.

Dude, the Braves bailed.... Pads wanted too much and rejected the Braves final offer, which was pretty generous..... SD may end up eating this one.... since the Braves have moved on to looking at FAs .... and they were in a position to offer the most....
