One day after severing ties with closer Kerry Wood, the Cubs began exploring Friday the possibility of signing left-hander Randy Johnson to a one-year deal. GM Jim Hendry hopes to re-sign Ryan Dempster, but he's moving ahead in case Dempster leaves.

I mean haven't the cube learned that oft-injured pitchers
ABSOLUTELY KILL YOU.

They'll sign him- COUNT ON HIM & when he can't pitch for
half the season because of his back - they'll be in a scramble
to try and find a replacement.....DUMB

If they really want to sign him, and why, I have no idea ... they should sign him month-to-month. Start-to-start, even. This guy is ready to fall apart at any moment.

The Cubs can never have too many inconsistent pitchers with injury questions.

Does Johnson know the Heimlech manuever? Because the Cubs will choke, it's guaranteed.

November 15, 2008  02:33 PM ET

um...you guys do realize this is a safety guarantee considering he is 13-0 against the cubs in his career, and if you pick him up not only do you get a hall of famer, not only do you get a lefty, but you get someone that can actually PITCH WELL...

and he has playoff experience...oh and a world series not to mention...

he busted with the yankess but the yanks werent much better without him so you cant blame that on him...with the d-backs he pitched really decent but Arizonas offense went downhill so guess what....cant blame that on him either!!!

yeah he's 45...but you do realize he IS the last pitcher with a perfect game AND a lil history note for you associated with that factoid...Nolan Ryan was the oldest to pitch a no-hitter at 45...so dont think RJ cant pitch
