Theus in trouble in Sacramento?

08:54 AM ET 11.16 | Kings co-owner Joe Maloof, interviewed by a Sacramento radio station, was somewhat critical of Reggie Theus. He said his coach needed to develop a system like Rick Adelman had with the Kings. "You know, when someone is injured, he'd plug someone into that position and the machine would continue to work." Say, what? I could have sworn the Maloof brothers forbid team president Geoff Petrie from re-signing Adelman. Maloof also said Theus and assistant Chuck Person must figure out how to improve the team defensively. "We need to protect the 3-point line. We're close to last in defense and close to last in turnovers." Least we misinterpret Maloof, he still has confidence in Theus and says he has a bright future with the Kings. That is, as long as he cultivates a system and does it quickly. Maybe I should mention the guaranteed portion of Theus' exceedingly edible contract (roughly $2M) expires at season's end.

...the kings are clearly in a rebuilding stage...can't the maloofs be patient? are they becoming mark cuban wannabe's?.....they are the reason they don't still have adelman...two weeks in and already throwing the coach under the bus....at the beginning of the season the kings were predicted to finish last in their division, but they are now better than that. isn't that good enough to keep from criticizing your coach in public?...inquiring minds want to know....

the maloofs problem is the absence of a 'system'
The roster is AWFUL - which is a MANAGEMENT issue.....
but I think this issue is there is no 'direction'

- look at the knicks- under Isiah they were lost-
now under D'A (granted they played a cupcake schedule
so far) but with basically the same roster....they at least
have an identity and they're all seemingly on the same page

The Kings problem is that they don't have the personnel to do much better than they're doing. New York in their 6 wins has beaten Miami, Charlotte, Oklahoma City, and Memphis. Don't get excited--the real Kincks will show up soon.

I know they haven't played anyone in their wins but its the loss against the Spurs that really showed me something. That team actually hung in with the Spurs for three quarters. Last year that team wouldnt even have showed up.

It also showed me a lot about the Spurs that Popovich still owns D'Antoni even when his roster is decimated. I was surprised SA pulled out a win against the Knicks who are actually playing pretty well....Knicks are playing better than they are expected to without their two regular starters... Hope they keep it up and prove the extreme critics wrong.

Maloofs, Cuban...overly involved, attention-hungry, control-coveting owners...What do they have in common? Losing teams. Somewhere, Bill Davidson has got to be saying who's your daddy now to these little punks named Maloofs and Cuban.

It's a rebuilding situation with Sacramento. Be patient with Theus. Those young guys will eventually get the point.JGB and Hllywd: I'm conflicted with the Knicks. I do think the old Knicks will make appearances but honestly this team really looks good. I know they haven't played anyone in their wins but its the loss against the Spurs that really showed me something. That team actually hung in with the Spurs for three quarters. don't be conflicted- this team is coming back down to earth
BUT
they certainly have showed improvement- which is what's important

If Maloof want Theus to plug someone in when a player gets injured to keep the machine running smoothly, he better invest in some quality spare parts.

I hate it when GM's signal that they are starting a rebuilding project, trade any player over 27 years of age with value or high salary, and then when fans get mad at the record of the team, blame the rookie head coach who was supposed to be, essentially, an interim coach, anyway.

Can you say Avery Johnson? Avery would probably fit for the Kings system. The team can score but no defense at all. They just need a coach to make the players play more consistently. Maybe Avery learned his lesson from the Mavs job and will probably make the Kings better.

Adelman is top notch and was underrated.
