Pavin, Love leading Ryder Cup race?

10:33 AM ET 11.16 | PGA of America CEO Joe Steranka said more than two people are on the list of candidates for 2010 U.S. Ryder Cup captain that will be announced late this year or early next year. He said the PGA wants someone still connected to today's PGA Tour players and who has recent Ryder Cup experience because the event has grown exponentially. I wouldn't be surprised if the PGA already has Corey Pavin in mind for next time, with Davis Love III on deck. Steranka said his association is "looking" two, three, four Ryder Cups down the line.

Joe Steranka should be looking at Larry Nelson.
If not, he's got as much mud between his ears as Finchem.
In fact, what we are all wondering is: does any executive for the tour have ANY brains?

There is nothing at all wrong with Pavin as being a captain some day but throwing in these pretty boys who are still playing the game doesn't make as much sense as utilizing a guy who has finished with the regular tour a proven winner.
People like Love and Pavin have time enough to look down the road for a captaincy.
But Finchem and Co go for the glam rather than substance. He is after the entertainment, not the win.
If Finchem was after the win, and of course if he had any brains which he doesn't, he would put Nelson in as an effective stop gap. Especially in '10 when they go back across the pond.
The Euros are going to be out for blood because of the dirty win effected by Azinger and his Rovean thugs.
That wouldn't bother Nelson but I can promise you Pavin would rather that particular bolt of lightning passed him by. I would wager that if you could talk to both Pavin and Love in confidence--neither would prefer to take it in '10. In '12 there would be no problem.
By the way Helen, we did good on the 4th eh? The unparalleled level of corruption has finally been recognized by most. Now we need to work on the other 25 per cent who can't see beyond the end of their nose. On the other hand it may be impossible. You know what Ron White says: "You can't fix stupid".

Agreed.
I especially liked it when DeLay made the quip after '06 that his team would win all the seats back in '08.
It made him look like the fool he is.
Let the Evagelicals suffer for a while. Poopheads.

Why is a captain chosen SO early for the Ryder Cup...after all, the participants themselves aren't even determined until 2 weeks before the tournament? Anyone, anyone, Bueller, Bueller???

I hope that Pavin does get the job at some point. Several years ago, just after he won the US Open, my company started sponsoring him. I was fortunate to entertain some of our top customers at golf outings that Pavin appeared in. You will not meet a nicer guy. In one of our conversations, he mentioned that he would like to Captain a Ryder Cup team someday. Based on his overall career and his Ryder Cup record, he would be a good choice.
