The Tigers are contemplating a deal with Boston to send either Nate Robertson or Dontrelle Willis for Julio Lugo, but some money issues must be resolved.

Willis was sent down to the minors this year for a time, I thought. and Robertson is 31 years old with a lifetime win/loss record of 49-66, 4.90 ERA and A WHIP of 1.453.

Sounds like the RedSox are unloading one so so player for two so so pitchers.

Robertson sucks and Willis does, too. I don't see why this trade would happen. Dontrelle, as JC pointed out, sucked so bad last year they sent him to the minors. He is due $22M over the next two years. Robertson is due $17M. I don't understand why the Red Sox would want to pay $39M for two pitchers who last year combined for only 192 innings and a ****' laughable 6.73ERA. If they just want to dump Lugo, I think they'd be better off straight releasing him -- he's due $18M over the next two -- unless there is something more to this trade...

Good morning, Faith and JC.

JC:

Did I guess correctly that you got a copy of The Great American Novel?

yes you did... sorry, I was slumming in the TDs again. :) I need to finsih a Koontz book first and then I willl read that one next. Slinky... go drink some coffee and eat some cinnamon raisan french toast with sausages and bacon. :))) I wasn't ignoring you.

I understand teams try and trade players who need the
'change of scenery'......but it's going to take a lot more than
that to help these guys-
(although Robertson I think just had a bad year- he could be a decent # 5)

Willis might have to do an Ankeil - take some juice & start over

November 16, 2008  09:43 AM ET

Slinky!!!!! Riddle me this: why is Milton Bradley getting no love this off season?

November 16, 2008  09:44 AM ET

okay, coffee is done, bbl.

Out of the frying pan, into the fire. It's great to get rid of Lugo, but why trade one glaring hole in your infield for one in your pitching staff? Especially Willis ... I don't know what happened to that dude, but his skills dropped off quicker than I don't know what. Maybe it's because he kicks himself in the head every time he throws a pitch.

This deal is probably just another low-grade FN rumor. Me myself, I'm contemplating playing first base for the Yankees, but they know as much about that as the Red Sox probably do about what this article says the Tigers are contemplating here.

Good morning, everyone, and have a nice, relaxing Sunday. Especially you, Joe, you deserve it!

The Red Sox are great with their young pitchers and could work out problems with either pitcher. Willis defiantly has the talent to be a great pitcher, he just needs to find his way back to his success.

Is that stuff smokeable?

November 16, 2008  10:28 AM ET

going down to the minors seemed to help Brett Myers. and they arent tradeing Lugo for both. it says OR inbetween them in the article. so its one or the other. I'll take willis. our pitching coach is probably the best in the league. and who cares if lugo goes. we will need another SS though. i was high on lowre last year when they first called him up but he might just turn into the next alex cora for a year or two.
