Will Cavs make run at Vince Carter?

Keep this name in mind: Vince Carter. Many observers around the league think the Nets will make the veteran shooting guard available at the trade deadline, and don't be surprised if the Cavs make another run at him. The question in Cleveland is whether Carter can set aside his ego and play second fiddle with the Cavs. He should be able to accomplish that in order to win a championship before he retires.

How is this has been going to help Lebron and the Cavs?

November 17, 2008  08:56 AM ET

I cannot possibly see why this is a good idea? LeBron could use a second offensive player but he would be better off if that scoring came from the low post. Adding another scoring guard would only confuse things.

- it would 'help' them - not exactly what they need-
but certainly would help

But it would be an UNBELIEVABLE stroke of good fortune
for the Nets - who are CHOKING under vince's deal

If VC couldnt put his ego aside to co egsist with his cousin Mcgrady do you honestly think the king can change him ?

November 17, 2008  09:23 AM ET

The Cavs need to make a run at some of the available bigs. (ie Harrington, McDyess, etc) Having said that, I do however like this idea. As opposed to just being a jump=shooter, Carter will go to the rack. LeBron can no longer be double-teamed, while looking for spot-up shooters. I think it was a mistake for the Cavs to let Posey slip through their hands. Posey is from Cleveland and would have been a perfect fit, as he rebounds, plays defense and hits the 3. In order to get to the next level, the Cavs have to upgrade from Varejao.

That wasn't the problem. Other than McGrady, there were no pieces that would have taken that team to another level.

I respect Hllywd's and JGB's minds. They make solid contributions to this site but I really can't see VC and LeBron being good together but I defer to the both of you. If you two can see it, then I guess it works.

November 17, 2008  09:59 AM ET

I see all the T&R 'experts' have already sounded off on this. But my 2c.
VC cannot be a good fit with Cavs. What LBJ needs is help, not starpower. That might help to fill in seats, if there any any empty left, but usually no empty seats in a LBJ game.
VC is a HUGE defensive liability. He is not a team leader, never been the big shot guy nor a playoff performer.
Shawn marion - might be a much better help for LBJ. He plays second fiddle anyways, but always healthy, rebounds, blocks and can shoot the 3 (as ugly as it might look). Shawn marion is your guy, not VC.

oh- believe me I HATE vince's game-
he's a PG, is oody and doesn't play D....
and if I were the cavs I wouldn't want his contract or him

but contracts aside - if t's vince or West/gibson- i'd have to pick Vince.

I love how everyone who doesn't watch VC is commenting. This guy is playing great with the Nets right now and will not be traded, he's meshing too well with Devin Harris. The Cavs pray they could make this trade.

November 17, 2008  10:50 AM ET

It would be good for cavs depending on who is going to enter in the deal...having VC instead of Wally is a improvement for any team...

November 17, 2008  10:55 AM ET

VC can't help the Cavs get the championship. PERIOD! HE's too soft.

November 17, 2008  11:07 AM ET

He'll probably desert the team on a game 7 to go to NC again. Don't need him.

November 17, 2008  11:07 AM ET

His offense is alright (not as great as it used to be), but he's defense sucks. The Cavs live by the defense which is their identity, why mess with that for a slightly-above-average, expensive, diva, older.... SG?

what's the nets record ?
what have the nets done WITH vc ?
Do you know how BAD his deal is ?

I don't care how 'well' he's playing now- look at his history
he's vince- he's ALWAYS scored points. That's not the question
bottom line is he doesn't make the team any better- never has

- he had 2 great [layers in RJ & Kidd- in the EAST and he got them
nowhere.....why ? maybe you & him should look inthe mirror...

...I think one of Vince's favorite things to do is look in the mirror and behold the glory that he thinks is himself.

If VC wants to come off the bench, then it'll help.

Otherwise...it'll be like the Carmelo and Iverson experiment in Denver.

This is a true statement. Wally Sczerbiak is trash.
