Mets deny Venezuelan K-Rod rumor

There's a report circulating on the Internet out of Venezuela that suggests that Angels closer Francisco Rodriguez was in New York getting a physical. A person within the Mets organization last night said "it's not true." The same thing happened with the Erik Bedard trade to the Mariners last winter. A report out of Diario Panorama in Venezuela said the Mariners had pulled star prospect Adam Jones out of winter ball and were shipping him to Baltimore for a physical. The M's denied it, but all it did was stall a deal that was eventually finished.

It would make sense that the Mets would try and sign him now and lock him in before things got crazy...
But something tells me that this is just a rumor. After hearing K-rod talk the last couple of seasons, I wouldn't think the frenzy would be over this quickly.

Only if he wants to play for a team that misses the playoffs the last game of the season, haha.

The Mets are the only team that could and would pay that dumb money, I hope they, or anyone else can get him for less, he doesn't deserve dumb money, maybe stupid money, but not dumb...

Mets better sign K-rod while he is still spanish

November 17, 2008  10:48 AM ET

Only reason why the Mets are interested in him

K-rod fits in perfectly too, he blows a lot of saves.

Ouch at some of these comments.

Look, we need a closer and he's the best one available so hopefully the Mets get him.

the mets r gonna sign k-rod and it might be somewhat true but why would anyone trust a venezuelan website about the mlb. especially in the bedard deal involving adam jones. what does that have to do with any venezuelan players?

the mets better hurry up and make an offer to k-rod. he won't wait for ever. get a set up man also because what sense would it make to get a closer without a set up man. both are very important. remember rivera the set up man for john wettland.get starting pitching and bring in manny. please don't bring abreu. i would much rather have ramirez than abreu.

The thing is many prospects and mlb players play in the winter league in Venezuela so when a deal is in the works, the mlb team will usually sit(if contract permited) those players involved in trades. I'm not saying Venezuelan media is always right about mlb rumors(rarely) but many of the mlb teams have contracts with winter league teams for player develpment and scouting. The thing with Bedard/Jones was just because Jones was playing in the winter league and supposedly that was the reson given for his dismissal.

By the way I was in a Venezuela league baseball game last night between Tiburones de La Guaira(K-ROD's team) -- Caribes de Anzoategui

Tiburones(home team) was giving K-Rod a recognition for his record setting season at the stadium....He was there so I dont think he was getting a physical the day before.... Im sure he's in talks with Moreno at this point and according to what I've heard him say he would like to go to the Mets... I think he might cut down on his crazy demands to play for the mets but he still wants his payday...I dont think he will get a contract longer than 4 years but if he wants to play for the mets he will have to settle for 3 ... I think... It might happen if the $$$ is right. He would be a good fit IMO

It's been so long, I can't remeber the last time your Cowgirls won a playoff game.
