McNabb's last season in Philly?

He didn't know. Donovan McNabb has played in the NFL for a decade now, but he didn't know that a game can and will end in a tie if the score is still even after one 15-minute overtime session. McNabb knows now. In case McNabb didn't know this either, in all likelihood, his reign here in Philadelphia is just about over. That's not a lock, because Andy Reid is a supremely stubborn and loyal man. But with the Eagles at 5-4-1 - such a 1970s record if there ever was one - we probably are entering the final six-game slate of the McNabb era in Philadelphia. Given how he helped resurrect this franchise, McNabb's tenure shouldn't end this way - ugly and unsatisfying - but it probably will anyway. If the Eagles miss the playoffs for the third time in four years, and there's absolutely no reason to think that they won't, someone has to go. Given the tight relationship in the front office, it's unlikely that Jeffrey Lurie will fire Joe Banner or Reid. Reid won't let go of offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. Maybe the triumvirate sacrifices general manager Tom Heckert, but really, what would that accomplish or whom would that satisfy? The likely scenario, despite Reid's undeniable bond with the man he selected out of Syracuse with the second pick in the 1999 draft, is that the Eagles will say thanks and goodbye to McNabb.

Thats crazy that this season would fall on Donavon when the Eagles only have 1 legitimate threat and that's an injured Westbrook. I guess they need a scapegoat and it will be Mcnabb but I don't think he will have a problem finding work.

I saw that press conference yesterday. That was sad.

Andy Reid is the one who has to go. He is the worst in game coach I have ever seen. Plus he is a terrible talent evaluator. Why sign a conerback for all that money when you cleary need some offense. Smith has been a bust at TE. They have never had a WR that has been anything other than TO. He has had a chance to win two games this year and ran straight dives into the line. Just Pathetic. Andy Reid coaches about as well as he parents.

November 17, 2008  07:31 AM ET

It's pretty simple. The birds are not good right now and it strongly looks like we miss the playoffs again. We need a change. Lurie just cares about $$$ and nothing else. Having Reid at the helm means having a yes man that will deliver that "gold standard" of always being well under the cap. Reid will stay and Mcnabb will go.

You stink Lurie. Get some freakin players in here

No doubt this will be another "McChunky" hate filled thread. Enjoy FN trolls.

McNabb can be a surprisingly good QB. I think it's his bosses who are constantly making the wrong calls and plays. It doesn't help his case that he's as brittle as a porcelain either.

That's the only part that I agree with you on Sox; Reid has to go. Marty has to go find somewhere else as well.

Let Jim Johnson take over, recruit Cowher or Singletary if he's available. Heck, even Jim Haslett if the Rams let him go. But Reid and Morny have become stale and predictable. This is a team that should be at the top of the food chain with their talent.

The D-line is very good, they have a young LB corps, the secondary is good, but Demps needs to play opposite of Dawkins so he can learn the trade and eventually take over.

The offense should be much better than this. Westbrook isn't the only weapon the Eagles have. Curtis is back, Jackson should be utilized in so many other ways, Celek is a great young TE, and what ever happened to Lorenzo Booker being used like Westbrook?

It all comes back to the coaches. They don't have a good plan in place and they don't make adjustments.

November 17, 2008  07:42 AM ET

That's too bad. McNabb has sure given us hell over the years. I'd hate to see him go out like that...

And how in the world did he not know about the tie? When I was watching ESPN last night, I heard one of the guys say that it was the Eagles and McNabb who had to play the Falcons in the '02 (championship?) game and how did McNabb not know the Falcons record coming in with a tie on the board? They were the other team to last own a tie....

November 17, 2008  07:46 AM ET

the eagles won't be the same without McNabb.

Quoted for truth. if there are McNabb haters out there, especially in Philadelphia, I can't wait to play you guys next year with Kyle Kolb under center (who?)

Try being mobile at all against the blood-thirsty defenses of the NFC East - Eagles will be sub .500 and on the outside looking in for years.

Told his quarterback didn't know the rule, Mornhinweg said: "Yeah, um, yeah, but, uh, I don't know what to say on that one."

I think it is part of a coaches job to work with the players on all levels of the game..Someone should have made it obvious. You are only as good as your coaching. That is what separates players and teams at the pro level. They are all top athletes , big , fast and strong. It will do no good to let players go if you do not improve the teaching they are getting. Maybe that is one of the reasons they do not develop top receivers..It is one thing to draft talent, that is step one, you must then teach them the pro game...

November 17, 2008  08:07 AM ET

Put McNabb on the Vikings or Bears and they go straight to the NFC title game.

November 17, 2008  08:09 AM ET

This is all on Reid. Again. Shocking as that may sound. Still can't manage to game plan for 3rd-and-1. Who decides to throw nearly 60 passes in a driving wind? Reid does. Let's see, you have a completely bange up Westbrook and you decided to leave Buckhalter on the bench. Again. He gets one his his few chances to make a play and scampers for 44 yards and is swiftly benched or sent in to block for the rest of the game. He is clearly the freshest guy on the field when he comes in, yet Reid decides to waste him away. Sign Kevin Curtis and Reggie Brown to huge contracts so you can get a couple meaningless catches between them? Sweet. Where do I sign up?

How long until pitchers and catches report?

November 17, 2008  08:09 AM ET

Eagles should have went after Fitzgerald a little harder or Chad Johnson even, they need some help and Mcnabb still has a big arm but when your only weapon is Westbrook and Jackson its easy to shut them down. Should be another win for the G-Men this Sunday!

November 17, 2008  08:10 AM ET

I hope not... I mean i think that all the blame is being put on him for failures. Reid had alo to do with some 4 and 1 calls that the eagles could of very well won. Seems that the longest yard this season has been the 4 and 1.

Looking that far ahead?

The fourth down calls are not good, but cannot a guy like McNabb audible out of some of them? They gave the game to the Giants with those third and fourth down runs when they were passing all over them...Cannot blame McNabb for all of it. But it is weird that someone like him still struggles with his footwork so much...Unless he does not do the things you need to do to make yourself better from a technique standpoint...

November 17, 2008  08:15 AM ET

Unless you want to include Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years.

November 17, 2008  08:16 AM ET

They booed when he was drafted remember. Sometimes it seems he is called on to do too much. Then you will see a Garcia come in and all of a sudden other guys start contributing. I blame Reid.

Exactly, why can't he audible? More afraid to be a goat than be the hero? Or he is told not to because Big Red Cheesesteak breathe is all knowing?
