Freshman wide receiver Michael Floyd and sophomore linebacker Brian Smith will miss Notre Dame's last two regular-season games after suffering knee injuries Saturday in a 27-21 victory over Navy. Coach Charlie Weis said Sunday that both players could return in time for a bowl game. Floyd leads the team with 46 receptions and seven touchdown catches. Smith is fourth on the team with 53 tackles.

A new record! Four comments before the usual sophomoric reference to Charlie's weight. Way to go Husker...!

Thank you

Floyd & Smith are tough to lose.

I don't wish injury on ANY team. Are they even gonna make a bowl now with what's left on their schedule and their top receiver out?

November 17, 2008  11:17 AM ET

Yup. Notre Dame is pretty deep at receiver, and should beat a terrible Saracuse team.

Thus...Notre Dame goes to a BCS bowl.

I think they're projected to play....Penn State. Bing bang Boom. (I just pick pocketed some "thunder" for those ND haters)

November 17, 2008  11:44 AM ET

ND might not make the NCG now, there is still all the other BCS games for the Irish to back into though.

November 17, 2008  11:52 AM ET

ND threads are the best, they are like that chappelle show skit with the player hater's ball. "I would love to stay but I need to go fill buck nasty's mama's water dish. I hate you all and hope bad things happen to you, and you only, hate hate hate!"

November 17, 2008  12:01 PM ET

A 7-5 record should get them to a bowl they actually deserve to play in instead of being "pushed up" by the greedy BCS bowls who would rather line their pockets than have a competitive game.

November 17, 2008  12:08 PM ET

They need to play in a Bowl Game that they can win. It would do wonders for the pysche of all the underclassmen that they have coming back going into next year.

I stopped commenting on this site a while back just becuase I didn't want to keep adding to all of the already dumb and ignorant comments, but this is by far the best comment I have ever seen...ever. Nice job.

Return in time for a bowl game......... should be next season, if at all.

November 17, 2008  01:04 PM ET

I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY LET NAVY BACK INTO THAT GAME. WHAT WAS WITH THE ON SIDE KICKS? MAYBE SYRACUSE SHOULD ONSIDE KICK EVERY TIME. IRISH DID LOOK GOOD RUNNING THE BALL.

Great point. I am not a ND fan, but part of their problem in bowls over the last 10 years is playing against competition that is way over their head. They need an ACC or Big East mid-level opponent in order to get away from the losing streak. FSU would be a great match-up I would be willing to watch.

November 17, 2008  02:01 PM ET

Tough loss for them, never like to see guys get hurt. Floyd will be an asset in the years to come.

November 17, 2008  02:13 PM ET

OK... Required Charlie and ND baching quotas haev not been meet... get on the ball people!

In that picture it looks like Charlie opened his happy meal and someone had stolen his toy.

Charlie is so fat, it takes the entire defense to push him on the tackling sled.

ND sucks so bad, Jenna Jameson called them to ask for pointers.

Sun bowl here we come!!

A win Sat. over Syracuse. A loss at USC = 7-5

It's not anything to get hard about, but a bowl win would get the monkey off. Plus the record for the year would be 8-5. That's +5 from last year. :)
