The Raiders' head-coaching position is about as stable as a job on Wall Street, but that hasn't stopped NFL hopefuls from putting their names into consideration. Multiple Raiders sources said Sunday that Jim Fassel, 59, expressed interest in being interviewed again, reaching out to managing general partner Al Davis with a note to remind him of their longtime relationship and his admiration for the Raiders' organization. "He's the first to express any real interest" in being interviewed, one source said. Interim head coach Tom Cable had his record drop to 1-5 with a 17-15 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday, leaving the door open for what is expected to be yet another lengthy coaching search. The Raiders have had five head coaches since 2003.

LOL.

He has been available since the Giants let him go after the 2003 season. Wonder why? Go look at the way the last pro team he coached played that season. It was awful. They quit on the field and Tiki and the boys ran the locker room......The worst coach to ever have a team in a Superbowl....Period.

Yeah, they were pretty terrible. Fassel isn't even much of a coordinator either. The Raiders slide continues.

The guys only HC experience before being named the Giants HC was one season with a losing record in college football out in Utah. He then rode Elways back to the pros as if he is the one who made him.....He then rode Sean Paytons and Fox ( the DC backs in NY.)..Taking all the credit and none of the blame... Never has someone with so little ability gone so far in the NFL.....Can you tell I still cannot stand the guy. Never could....If Al Davis hires this guy then it is because he does not want a coach, he wants a marionette.....

I said before, being on this team is like being in purgatory. They are not going to have great choices in coaches. Might as well give him a shot.

November 17, 2008  08:12 AM ET

What is he desperate?

November 17, 2008  08:18 AM ET

Jim Fassel must have a death wish.

It's a job and a chance to get your name back out there. If he goes say 6-10 or 7-9, that would look great on his resume.

November 17, 2008  08:45 AM ET

Can you say pimping aint easy!!

This guy has been pimping his services since my beloved big blue let him go....

He's desperate! Hey, Mr. Davis, I am available too!

That's why he's grasping at straws and showing interest in being a coach at Oakland despite knowing full well what goes on there. He's so dead set on being a HC again he doesn't care. He'd be better off going to the college ranks and making some easy money working with kids who'd barely have the guts to go against his gameplan. No AD would question his moves, but Fassel is a fossil. Sad to say.

I got a great idea for a new reality TV show. Called Raider Coach. Watch a bunch of grown men lose their dignity trying to coach for Al Davis. The show can end everyweek with those immortal words............."You're Fired".

November 17, 2008  09:19 AM ET

I'm available too ...

November 17, 2008  09:55 AM ET

Fassel is really puckering up... digusting.

couldn't have said it better myself-

How f'n desperate must you be if you are looking to
a Raider position to get you back on your feet

November 17, 2008  10:14 AM ET

He is probably the only person alive who wants the job.

November 17, 2008  10:14 AM ET

Other than Al of course.

Actually I think the coach on the other sideline that day is the worst coach to ever have a team in the Super Bowl. Tiki and the boys tried to run the locker room on Coughlin, and probably did for a bit. Winning cures most problems

Its too bad that he has to go and beg for the Raiders job. I know 50-year can't stand him, but I always liked Fassel, especially when he "put the cards down, this team is going to the playoffs". He was a class act in New York. Its too bad that selfish jerks like Tiki, Shockey and (yes) Strahan pulled the rug out from under him. Good luck to him, but perhaps his best luck would mean that he doesn't get this job.
