Senators working phones

Senators GM Bryan Murray has been working the phones diligently as his club struggles to find some consistency. The Senators may be close to the point where Murray has to make a change just to shake things up, but finding a dance partner to make that happen has proven to be a lot more difficult than it was in the pre-salary cap era. While no team is ever completely happy with its personnel and the Senators are not alone in looking to make moves, Murray doesn't want to give up most of the players that other teams covet. But indications are that he will rejig his roster if it means being able to bring in a puck-moving defenseman to add to the mix.

If this guy doesn't look goalie first he's an idiot...oh yeah, he's already an idiot.

Murray is in way over his head.

Whatever happened to this team?!

November 17, 2008  10:30 AM ET

These guys went from one of the top three teams in the league to a cluster **** in a couple of years. What the hell happened. I thought getting rid of Emery would have done wonders for this team, but apparently there is more wrong than that.

This team is full of softies starting with Alfie....the others top stars follow suit.Look at Spezza. All the talent in the world but no heart.Someone needs to give out a few slaps in this dressing room....and it aint gonna be Alfie.

November 17, 2008  11:43 AM ET

Oh? The Sens are into telemarketing now?

It also went the other way around. When they first came in, and for many years, they were a 'cluster ****"

Murray should start by firing himself.

Seriously, good question. This team is falling fast. They could finish last in the Northeast.

Good one Peter.

They waited far too long to deal with the Emery crisis. Alfie ain't got the juice to lead this team anywhere & I always thought Spezza was too soft & not the sharpest crayon in the box. The problem with the Sens started when they let Chara go and other D-men. Now what is it again that Murray is coveting?
Murray has to go before he has Melrose moved from behind the unemployment line to behind the bench. Either way, I doubt Barry would be able to tell the difference at this point.

November 17, 2008  01:31 PM ET

Baund-ed,

Agreed. Letting Chara go took all the fear out of opposing forwards. They kept Redden instead, got nothing for him, and now their D-men are mostly slow and horrid puck-movers. Their forwards are overrated (except Heatley). Alfie and Spezza have proven one thing over the last few years- they can't lead anyone and they hate physical play. They don't have a good 'tender and their window for winning a championship has long since gone.

Murray hasn't done a good job at all, and should be let go asap. This team is going nowhere.

Bryan Murray backed out of more deals at the last minute than Julia Roberts out of marriages in the "Runaway Bride!"

I've been hearing Spezza to Columbus rumors for quite some time and the Jackets' blog on The Columbus Dispatch's website says that there has been a Senators scout in Columbus for over a month and that the teams have been actively talking about some kind of deal. Whether anything will materialize is so up-in-the-air, but if these rumors prove true, it would be the first big shake-up of the season if Spezza was traded.

November 17, 2008  04:24 PM ET

Spezza will only go if he can play video games in the dressing room before and after games.

Losing Chara to the Bruins a couple of years ago really hurt. This team totally lacks heart and toughness.
