Tippett: Stars friction exaggerated

The Stars have been talking a lot lately about mistrust and finger-pointing, as they struggle to find their game again. Some players said there should be more talking while others said it has to stop and be replaced by action. But coach Dave Tippett said the level of any locker-room friction has been greatly exaggerated. "A lot of stuff gets overblown in the media, that's the way society is right now. If anything, it makes us closer because they see the [stuff] that's being said," Tippett said. "Everybody likes to see a car wreck, but a lot of times it's just a fender bender. It's been way overblown."

With the salary cap, there is going to be a lot of turnover on rosters. That means players will have to develop chemistry and some teams will take longer than others. Maybe Avery needs to take them to a fashion show.

Nice justaposition between the headline and the choice of photo.

Sure sign that the coach is gone. As a political junkie, I know the first clue to believing a story is to wait for the denials

Kind of like Chief Wiggam from the Simpsons..."move along people, nothin to see here."

What else was the coach to say.....if you have dissension among the ranks it sure doesn't need to hit the headlines and, thus, the magnifying glass.

November 17, 2008  10:33 AM ET

There is nothing that brings out talk of dissention in the ranks like playing poorly. I dont think Avery can do that much damage this early. No matter how much of an a***ole he is.

November 17, 2008  11:41 AM ET

OK, so .... there's no friction .... he says! So .... tells us .... what's causing all the heat and smoke that's coming out of their dressing room?

November 17, 2008  11:43 AM ET

Well... Have a safe walk to the unemployment line, Coach Tippett.

November 17, 2008  11:50 AM ET

Dallas will pull through... out of chaos comes order, so they say.

November 17, 2008  01:09 PM ET

Bringing Avery into the dressing room has "Tippetted" the scales in Dave's demise.

November 17, 2008  02:21 PM ET

stars will be fine. tippett is definitely not getting fired either.

bad movie line warning:

Ah, blow it out your **** Howard....

Movie, anyone?

November 17, 2008  02:39 PM ET

Spiny is it "The Great Outdoors"?

November 17, 2008  03:33 PM ET

To help the Simpsons reference, and to provide the irony, I have to guess that while this interview was be done there was a fight in the locker room right over Tippett's shoulder. Tippett: "No, there's no truth to these specious rumors." Background:"Arrrrghhhh, he bit my ear!" Tippett: "This interview's over."

"Plato was a bore."- Nietzsche. "Nietzsche was stupid and abnormal"- Tolstoy. But those guys were idiots compared to Mel Brooks.

bing bing bing...we have a winner

And you forgot the partners to those:
I'm not going to climb into the ring with Tolstoy: Hemingway
Hemingway was a jerk: Harold Robbins

November 17, 2008  04:29 PM ET

Ah yes. I was having a hard enough time remembering what Tolstoy said.

"He's just crazy enough to do it!"

November 17, 2008  06:25 PM ET

you're so wise tippett sensei

November 17, 2008  07:35 PM ET

"Nice deflection by Tippett but the shot goes wide, no goal!"

November 17, 2008  08:23 PM ET

I'm a stars fan and I think for this team to win, Turco needs to step up his game, big time. And next the defense, but i'm cutting them some slack, besides Zubov and Sydor(woah!), they're young and just need time to gel together
