Stackhouse wants out of Dallas

Jerry Stackhouse and his agent are exploring options for a possible departure from the Dallas Mavericks, the result of a turbulent first month of the season in which his playing time and level of performance have dropped dramatically. Stackhouse did not demand a trade Monday after practice, but he calmly detailed his situation and said that he feels there is plenty of good basketball left in him, too much to be a bit player. He speculated that the end of his Mavericks tenure might be coming soon and that the organization's decision to bring along young players has left him with an uncertain future, given that he will probably be a free agent next summer. There are only three ways that Stackhouse and the Mavericks could divorce -- either through a trade, by waiving him or by buying out his contract, which is paying him $7 million this season and is partially guaranteed for $2 million next year.

If you're not even gonna let the man dress, buy him out.. Be done with him.. Let him move on.

Trade him to the Knicks for Curry. They are both done w/ their respective team. Stack is not the same Stack and Curry was never the same Curry. Maybe a change of scenery will do for both.

You could probably find a taker for Stackhouse. Try to trade him, and if you can't find a taker then just buy him out and move on.

Kind of like Guam Baller's idea but only if the Knicks agree to buy out Stackhouse because if they do not then they add another guard/forward to a roster that's very deep at those positions.

trade him for sefelosha an aron gray in chicago

November 18, 2008  10:29 AM ET

Happy trails Stack...for while you were the only one on the team with some nuts!! Everyone else basically soft as baby poo

what a wus........
anyone that is not an in-their- prime superstar should
just keep their mouth shut

that is an ignorant statement and usually I think you are close to right. So since KG isn't as dominate as he was he should keep his mouth shut? Since Shaq is no longer the top center he should just keep his mouth shut? These guys are leaders on their teams and their opinions are valid.

If the Mavs buyout Stackhouse I can see him going to the Celtics taking the place of james posey

Stack doesn't have any explosiveness left and can barely bend his knees to shoot anymore. Gerald Green is the explosive player on the team now. I say Stack could end up in San Antonio, Boston, or maybe even Portland if he is bought out. Portland is looking for some veterans. Sad thing, Marbury will probably end up here and will sulk here behind jason Kidd. This team is a mess and it is time to blow it up, start with sissy Ericka Dampier first and trade him after he has had a couple of good games for a change. Get rid of the pothead, the overpaid point guard, and start over with Dirk. The biggest move you need to make is Donnie Nelson. This guy has brought in zero talent through the draft since Howard and made a bad move trading Devon Harris(anybody checking his stats lately!) Need a Joe Dumars type in the front office. But hey at least we have a #1 this year! Should be a lottery pick.

November 18, 2008  11:36 AM ET

Stackhouse is 34, makes 7mil this year and he becomes a free agent. He officially joins Antoine Walker, Jamaal Tinsley and Stephon Marbury. Add Curry to the mix and you have the All Time Sucker Team.

Especially harsh jgb, even for you.

Most teams have only one or two "in-their-prime superstar[s]" so if we followed this model we'd only hear from 30-60 players and the coaches and owners. Who wants that?

I'd venture to say, not even you.

At least stackhouse wants to play and earn the money he's being paid. I applaud his desire, even if he's lost a step or two.

November 18, 2008  12:20 PM ET

He got sat down for one game and he is already pissed? Please. C'mon Stack, you're not that good anymore. All the games I've gone to this year he just keeps missing shots.

KG can say what he wants- he's still the man
Shaq should keep his mouth shut

I'm not saying these guys can't voice their opinion-
just that if THEY played better - their team would do better
- and when you are a ham & egger - you should be pleased
to have a job

- And as for stack- isn't he the same guy that said he was going
to take a month off & get paid .............

As I responded to heel-

I'm not saying they can't comment or voice their opinion

"he calmly detailed his situation and said that he feels there is plenty of good basketball left in him"

If this is indeed true- WHY IS HE ON THE BENCH.
- he may 'think' he's still got game- but he obviously either
DOESN't or his coach thinks he's a detriment to the team

November 18, 2008  12:58 PM ET

I would too with 55 year old Kidd running the point and Cuban being investigated by the FBI for illegal stock movements plus the fact that Stack gets 10 minutes a game under the idiot Carlise.

November 18, 2008  01:02 PM ET

Yesterday it was reported that Stackhouse has a 29% field goal percentage. If you eliminate the dunks and layups, the guy isn't making much of a case for suitors. He's 34 years old, and his game is leaving him. I think I saw his game on a milk carton.

November 18, 2008  01:19 PM ET

Well we know he is heading east if it happens i say trade Stack to the heat for Marion and get a defender to headline tp's defensive system

November 18, 2008  01:27 PM ET

I don't think there are takers out there for Stack. If you had a choice to take Marbury or Stack when they are realeased, I would take Marbury. Marbury still has the ability to take it to the hole and take some shots from the outside. The only problem is if he brings his baggage w/ him.

Stack is basically done. If he gets released then he might go home to his hometown of Charlotte.
