Pedro wants to stay a Met
Pedro Martinez still has "a lot of baseball left in him" and would like to finish his sure-fire Hall of Fame career in Flushing, according to his agent. Fernando Cuza told the Daily News yesterday that Martinez would "like to stay in New York." Cuza added that while the Mets are Martinez's top choice, they are only one of many possible suitors for the 37-year-old pitcher. A Mets official wouldn't rule out Martinez returning, assuming his contract demands are modest. While that might block Niese from a rotation spot, the official said that it's good to go into the season with more than five starters as a precaution against injuries.

Among his many suitors???
Hey, it's fine to say the guy still wants to play. It's even fine to say he wants to do it for the Mets. It's crazy though to start blowing stale air along the lines of teams are lining up to sign the guy however....
If his medical stuff checks out, and he keeps the cash on the thin end, somebody might give the guy an invite to spring training but there won't be any "lines" to do it......

If he wants to stay in New York, I see no reason why he shouldn't be able to get a nice fat three-year contract...with the Cyclones, or <gag> Gary Carter's Ducks. Puck Fedro.

No you aren't the only one. The Mets would do themselves a service and just let him go to one of those "suitors" he claims he has.

That was the beauty of the '08 Goober Lake Mets. They sucked so bad, they were incredibly good.

Co-sign the Ducks idea. Him and Gary Carter together would be well.

Sadly, he could come to Washington and be the ace of the staff. I assume Manny Acta and the Nats are one of the "many suitors" mentioned in the article.

1 year deal with club option for 2010 at $6-7 million. It'd be a risk, but signing anyone with a history of injury like Pedro)Sheets,Burnett Wood etc..) always is.
