Rams take Faulk off roster
The Rams no longer are listing running back Marshall Faulk on their roster, although his retirement still isn't official, according to Jay Zygmunt, the team's president of football operations. Faulk announced his intention to retire three months ago at the NFL owners' meeting in Phoenix, but the paperwork with the league hasn't been filed. Zygmunt said he expected it to be completed next month.

For all the grief that the press and "fans" (sic) heaped onto Brett Favre for mulling retirement and keeping the team in limbo, why hasn't anyone said a word about Faulk doing the same thing??? He was beaten out by a rookie, Steven Jackson, three years ago and has just been hanging on to add to his stats and bankroll.
All the haters criticized Kurt Warner for being the beneficiary of Dick Vermeil's system. Well, what about Faulk? He was a journeyman with the Colts and didn't really distinguish himself until he got to the Rams and played for Vermeil & Martz and with Bruce, Holt and Warner. For that matter, neither did Priest Holmes. He was dumped by the Baltimore Ravens and found his niche with the Chiefs playing for Vermeil with Green Gonzales and co. Just goes to show how biased the press and the fans can be.
Please Marshall, just retire and wait for your HOF call.

Faulk a journeyman in Indy? Are you kidding me? He scored atleast 7 TDs in each of his seasons there; his lowest reception total was 47;
In 1998, he had 1300 yards rushing, 10 TDs, 86 catches and 900 yds receiving. That was his final year with the Colts, pretty good numbers indeed.
Yes, he capitalized on his St. Louis opportunity, and in a huge way. Marshall Faulk is a beast, and his entire career is one of the best of all running backs to have played the game. His career low for catches in a season is 44. This back was durable, consistent and never fumbled. To say he was a journeyman is incredibley incorrect. The only thing similar between Holmes and Faulk is that they both scored barrells of TDs in offense-heavy systems.
Faulk still has skill and heart to play RB, even if means being a backup. I'd take him as a third-down running back any day of the week, even when he's 40.

Faulk was never a journeyman. He had so much talent running and catching the ball. He was and is a gentleman and was such an asset to the Colts and Rams. Happy retirement Marshall.

I think it goes without saying that Faulk was a monster. In his prime it was just sick what he would do to defenses.

Replacing one good rb with another is not a huge disruption for a team. Replacing the qb is. I used to like Favre but I got sick of him a long time ago.
He layed down for Strahan so he could get the sack record and shafted his offensive line in the process. When his dad died we had to listen to an entire game of "Look at Brett. He's being so brave for his team." Brave Brett went to work and left all the miserable arrangements to his siblings.
Then the announcers drone on about how Brett walks on water. I would't be suprised if they were all in the booth spanking themselves the way they're in love with this guy.

faulk was a great rb at San Jose State & has had a HOF career in the NFL(colts, RAMS). he improved the position of runningback with his ability to catch the ball anywhere on the field. and Vermeil has always known how to get the best out of his runningbacks (Montgomery-Eagles, Holmes-L.johnson-Chiefs). And he is a classy guy. Happy Retirement !!

To everyone who acts like Marshall Faulk was nothing more than a "journeyman" or a "beneficiary of the Rams offense." please take two steps back and think about what that Rams offense would have been without him. there is no more dangerous weapon in the NFL than a RB who can rush for a 1000 yards, catch for a 1000 yards, score 20 or more TD's, make defenses change how they play the game just to accomodate for him, not to mention draw up his own playbook and share it with the coaching staff. On top of all that and he is one of the classiest men to play the game. If anybody deserves to retire however they want too, its Marshall. One of the best RB's to ever play the game

Marshall reinvented the word RB to "All Purpose RB". No one and I do mean no one has done was he did during the 90 to the Super Bowl Ring in 1999/2000. Yes, G. Sayers was the man but he was the man then. Then if we remember this RB uses to make defenses look silly named Barry Sanders. Those players are "Running Backs" and they're a bunch of them that were good but M. Faulk just torched LBs trying to cover him in the flat or trying to cover him coming out of the backfield. Then he'll run for 100 yds, score a TD without the personal celebration, I might add..Team player, HOF player and deserves to be look at again if he wants to play. Players like Joseph Addai in Indy and E. James in Arizona benefit from Marshall's style of play.
S. Jackson is the man now but backups are always needed, remember K. Warner was a backup before we won the Superbowl. M. Bulger was a backup to K. Warner which he produce playoff wins and a MVP trophy from the All Star Game. We'll be better once the pieces come back together but Faulk is still the man.

If Falk wants to play and he still can, I say use him . He would be a great second back and could bring alot of confustion to a defense that has to hold a line backer in to account for Jacksons running game.
Question is will Falk accept the assignments in that kind of offence. He could teach Jackson a few things ,
