There is some debate as to whom is the best high school player in America, but I'm here to tell you that there is no doubt who is the smartest. His name is DeMarcus Cousins. You could also make a case that Cousins is the most physically talented player in the country. At 6-foot-9, 250 pounds, he possesses an NBA-ready body with shooting range that extends beyond the three-point line. Rivals.com ranks Cousins No. 2 in the class of 2009. Scout.com ranks him No. 10. Last March, Cousins, who attends LeFlore High in Mobile, Ala., announced his intention to stay near home and play for UAB. Cousins is ready to put pen to paper and make his commitment to UAB official, but he's adding one wrinkle: He wants UAB to put in writing that if Blazers coach Mike Davis is not at UAB next season, then the school will release Cousins from his National Letter of Intent (NLI). Sounds reasonable, right? Yet, UAB has thus far declined Cousins' request. If he doesn't sign his Letter of Intent this week, Cousins will have to wait until the spring signing period in April and May to sign his letter. Or, he may not sign the letter at all. Either way, UAB's intransigence is putting the school in jeopardy of losing out on the best recruit in school history.

Perfect situation for mike Davis for a couple of reasons...

1. He gets a great recruit and keeps his job...

2. He's doing good at a smaller school where he's not pestered about a former great coach, he's home, and he can just do his job.....

Bad situation for UAB.....

1. No recruit like this would come to your school for any other reason....

2. You are UAB....

Good move by Cousins. Kids sign with schools now because of the coaches and not the schools themselves. Its a way to protect himself in the case that Davis either goes against his word and looks for a new job after this season, or in case UAB fires him.

And he wants an Escalade to drive around, and a new house for his moms, and a good job for his pops, and some walking around money, and atleast 2 new chicks each weekend.

Lol. After What happened to Jeff Whithey, I don't blame Cousins. Whether he's one & done or not, landing this recruit will lure future top prospects and turn UAB into a powerhouse in C-USA.
