NFL to fight Super Bowl scalpers

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says he's tired of Super Bowl interceptions. Interceptions by ticket scalpers, that is. Goodell said Tuesday that the league was looking into the best ways to get its lowest-priced postseason tickets into the hands of actual fans, and not into those of secondary ticket brokers who send prices skyrocketing. "It's difficult and it's time consuming, but it may be the next step that we need to take is where you actually say, 'You come to the stadium with your identification, and you'll get your two tickets after you're inside the gate,' " Goodell told a small group of reporters in Los Angeles. Along with its recent announcement that the most expensive Super Bowl XLIII tickets will have a $1,000 face value, the league said it is setting aside 1,000 tickets priced at $500. While those prices might sound outlandish, Super Bowl tickets on the secondary market typically go for $3,500 and up.

Typical Roger Goodell, worrying about things that shouldn't concern him. What about the guy on your Jacksonville team still playing despite being arrested on cocaine possession chargers, Roger? Oh wait, that's right, he's not a minority player so you don't have to punish him first.

hey rodger, how about dealing with the issues on the field. like the inconsistent calls by the refs or addressing the terrible job the league office is doing with fines this season.

or perhaps finally working out a deal with cable to get the nfl network in more than 40% of the homes in the usa..

While I can sympathize with his desire to get tickets into the hands of average fans, he's fighting the forces of supply & demand. When there's a lot of people who want a few things, prices for those few things go up. Its pretty nieve to expect anything else to happen.

What a joke. I cant even buy a AC/DC concert ticket because they were hoarded on release....now I must pay 2-3 x's the amount from ebay or elsewhere. The real fans will continue to get trampled.

I think that his reputation is taking quite a hit and he is starting to realize that. By appealling to the "fans" and "common man" he is trying to get back into the good graces of all of us who are really starting to get tired of him.

I watched him on the NFL Network last night and although it was a very brief sit down interview, he came across as one of the most arrogant stuffy men I have ever listened to. Just his demenor sitting there totally turned me off. Very arrogant

Just my opinion

If it's in the game, it's in the game.

What's Goodell going to do, drag every fan into the league offices in New York and ask their intentions and explain the rules to them? Time for a new commissioner. This guy is a joke.

When did the NFL begin caring about the fans?

When they realized that we pay for everything and anything.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I figure that they'll cram close to 70,000 into Raymond James for the Super Bowl. 69,000 tickets at $1,000 a pop, comes to 69 Million Bucks!! Toss in Super Bowl priced beer & hot dogs, Super Bowl parking has to be $50 to $100, the NFL will easily top $100 million just at the stadium alone.

I guess the theory is that if someone can afford $1,000 for a football game, they'll gladly pay $50 bucks for a hot dog $60 for a beer. I wonder what tickets to Super Bowl 1 was.

PS-I'll bet the 1,000 tickets set aside for $500 are for league officials and owners.

If you're referring to Matt Jones, he's white. He IS a minority player in the NFL.

Maybe so but this is a start. If you had to have ID to show you bought the tickets then that would make things MUCH more difficult for scalpers to get 20, 30, 100 tickets and sell them for whatever they could get.

I hate it when people act as if a problem is so big that it isn't worth fighting. If there is a probelm then there should always be some attempt to resolve it even if it only helps a little.

What you said about AC/DC is an example where this could help. What if you had to register your ID to get the tickets and they only worked for you. Suddenly you aren't paying scalpers for tickets. I'm sure there would be ways around it but it would be a step in the right direction for ALL pay events. I would personally rather see this happen for concerts more than a football game.

The NFL has to have some sort of press release professional photo of Goodell so FN can stop using that god awful picture.
