Last year, Oregon coach Mike Bellotti took a long look at the UCLA opening. This year, some believe, Oregon State coach Mike Riley might attract the attention of, say, Tennessee. Funny, isn't it? Two years ago, there were OSU fans pushing for Riley's ouster. Two weeks ago, fans were clamoring for Oregon coach Mike Bellotti's job.

Tennessee is looking at Knute Rockne, Bear Bryant, Vince Lombardi, Bud Wilkinson all have said through various mediums that they would rather be dead than coach at UcheaT.

UcheaT supporters dismiss these comments as typical "coachspeak".

I wouldnt be overly excited about this guy if I were a Vols fan.

"UcheaT?" Site the transgressions and repercussions to back that up. Compare what you unveil to the records of other SEC programs. Begin by studying Galen Hall's tenure at Florida.

Too many of your comments are juvenal smack talk, GatorBaitor. Raise your game.

I can see your point, KingFootball. Setting aside your dislike for the program, who would you pursue? How would you rank the candidates? Is Chris Petersen among them?*

*Will there be absurd speculations arising from the request that Boise State fans wear orange in Reno?

Let's see, hmmm - professor states football players are having their work done for them, she provides evidence, she is summarily run out of town, nothing comes of it - sound familiar? want more?

You equate cheating with getting caught, which is the failing of the unscrupulous. If you are able to take off your pumpking orange blinders, you would see enough smoke to choke and elephant.

Game raised enough for you?

how about two guys that have recieved no consideration for these top jobs like clemson washington and ut Bronco Mendenhall (BYU) and Willingham (Utah) i think one of them is currently in the TOP 10 Comon these guys at least deserve to be in the convo for these jobs?

November 19, 2008  11:25 AM ET

If they had any sense they, would lock up Gary Patterson. He is solid, proven, and fits the culture.

November 19, 2008  11:40 AM ET

Since there is a lack of big name splash hires out there (or it looks doubtful at least) I'd make a nice long list of the mid-major coaches who could come in and overhaul the team which, like Michigan, UT needs. The offense looks anemic so why not hire a wizard like Peterson or Willingham? Or, on the defensive side, Patterson? Look what it did for Florida.

These guys sound better than Lane Kiffin to me. And I doubt Leach or Davis take the offer.

November 19, 2008  11:43 AM ET

dont forget about brian kelly out of cincy Pat Hill is another name seeing him in washington makes sense doesnt it the kind of mentality that washington needs to retool that program

November 19, 2008  12:00 PM ET

no way the Vols get this guy. we don't want someone who was on the hot seat 2 years ago. only someone with a LOOOOOONG history of success would be able to follow in Phil's footsteps.

gator bait, honestly do you think that UT is the only sec school that has players who cheat? didn't you guys have a star LB named channing crowder who didn't know that london was a city? and didn't this guy have like a 3.0+ GPA? come on get off your pedistal, YOU guys do it as well.
ps, UT dismissed morely last year for having a poor acidemiuc record. do you honestly think if we were UcheaT one of our star players would get dismissed.

Fulmer did start to lose control of his program.

Comparatively, Spurrier, Zook, and Meyer have done a great job with their students, and when Spurrier's athletes got into trouble, he truly disciplined them. You had to go all the way back to Galen Hall when Emmitt Smith was playing at Florida?

I bet it will be Butch Davis or Mike Leach. Proven success

If he was having trouble with heat at Oregon State... what you think will happen at Tenn?

November 19, 2008  12:32 PM ET

Riley will not leave Oregon State. Riley is from Corvallis and has a good thing going. If it weren't his hometown it would be different but he is there to stay.

I don't think the Alabama fans were, when Alabama was talking to him. Tennessee is loaded with talent right now and has right now a great class coming in. They should be able to get a very good coach.

I don't know how "loaded" Tenn is with talent right now with a 3-7 record and 1-5 conference record, but some recruits will be waiting to see who will be named the new coach before they go to Tenn.

November 19, 2008  01:38 PM ET

Mike Shula

Tennessee should go after him and buff up that rivalry with Alabama.

Whatever they do they should stay East Coast.

Offer Urbie Meyer $30 million like Saban and build up the Florida rivalry that is kinda one sided.

What about getting the Bowden Brothers to come in and take over?

November 19, 2008  01:49 PM ET

I am hoping for a Big 12 or PAC 10 coach. Get some West Coast skill in with SEC speed.

Tenn does have some excellent players, skill and talent. They were playing against themselves this year. We were not out played. We had just as good a team as any conference, but they beat themselves up with stupid plays and silly mistakes.

With as many new players as we currently have it's like starting from scratch. A good coach can take this team far and by the time Florida or Alabama experience turnovers out team will be in the drivers seat.

As for Phil Fulmer, sorry guys but they should have kept him. With Phil you know what you had with someone else you don't know what you are getting. I am not a fair weather fan, I bleed orange good or bad, Phil Fulmer was tried in the court of public opinion and UT listened. Why would you listen to arm chair coaches and quarterbacks? People who can't play the game but they feel qualified to critique it? To offer opinons based on game day?

Sorry but I have a feeling they are going to regret losing Phil.
