Knick questions Celtics' toughness

Knicks guard Quentin Richardson made some incendiary comments toward the Celtics after the game: "I think a few of those guys know they can't just say anything to us," said Richardson. "I'm just real curious to see what those guys will be saying if we weren't in a basketball league, and didn't have referees. I mean it wouldn't be the same story. I mean they are the world champions and rah-rah-rah, but the tough part I don't factor. I come from a neighborhood where you can say what you want to say, but 'til you do something, it don't mean nothing. Some of those guys are happy to get a ring, but you ain't been in the league long enough to talk to people like that. I don't have a lot of respect for that. Like I said, I'd be curious to hear what they have to say in a different setting, I'd be very curious to see that."

Well....the Knicks are who????? Ewing, Frazier, Reed.....aint the chumps that are trying to play nowe. Word.

November 19, 2008  06:20 AM ET

its because you are professional athletes so people expect you to act professional. Now if you are a bum playing ball in the street, well go ahead and talk all you like.

November 19, 2008  07:07 AM ET

It's almost laughable when you read all the stuff that comes out everyday from some player on the Knicks.

Funny thing is, the topic of "Winning" rarely seems to be the thing they talk about.....

Yeah that's the worst part. The entire Knicks organization is a circus.

November 19, 2008  07:40 AM ET

He is right though. The Celtics are egomaniacs yet not even two years ago the "Big Three" were languishing on horrible teams. It only took three potential hall of famers and the luxury tax to get those rings. And now they think they can mouth off to whoever they want? Well, karmas a **** so watch out Celts.

November 19, 2008  08:11 AM ET

Just for a moment forget who's saying these quotes, and consider what he's saying instead. Should the Celtics players be arrogant? Unless their names are Ray, Paul, or Kevin, the answer is NO. They are just a bunch of career bums who rode the coat tails of three outstanding players.

November 19, 2008  08:19 AM ET

The Celtics did something by winning the title. I come from a neighborhood where Quentin Richardson can say what he wants to say, but 'til he does something, it don't mean nothing.

November 19, 2008  08:24 AM ET

Celtics are Egomaniacs? They weren't the ones talkin about the game... they just went out and won. This guard comes out and says something about a team that just gave them a beating. Sour grapes? I am sure it is a novel concept for Basketball players to talk trash. They have only been doing it (publically) since Larry, Dr. J and Magic started beating on each other. Richardson is whining....

The Celtics are the champs... enough said.

The Knicks are a joke.

Who is dumb enough to complain about another team's chatter? Especially in the NBA? Are you kidding me? It's like some kid in the playground coming up and smacking you in the mouth and telling the bully.. "I bet I can print better than you." There is just no connection. What does playing basketball in an alley prove?

November 19, 2008  08:33 AM ET

Garnett has always been a trash talker. He always talked down to everybody. I remember how he would disrespect guys like Duncan and Dirk and yet his team ends out losing. Duncan and Dirk wouldn't stoop down to his level and they would just play their game and pretend he is not even there. His attitude changed when he got his first MVP and lost again in the first round that year. He became more down to earth and respect other guys more. He is still intense but he does not get players face anymore unless provoked.

November 19, 2008  08:36 AM ET

Anyways, Q is probably talking about the young C's now. They are pretty cocky. The big 3 are not like that and they've learned and knows how to give and get respect.

November 19, 2008  08:46 AM ET

I got no problem with Quentin saying this behind closed doors. However, to the media is a problem. Especially when you play for an organization that has been the laughing stock of the NBA for the past 5 years.

November 19, 2008  08:46 AM ET

hahah the Knicks are a joke. Just a buncha dumbass thugs if you ask me. Q wonders if the C's would talk trash out side the court? Perk, KG, or Powe would woop the living snot out of Q. He's nothing but a big dumb uneducated waste of talent. The C's are defending champs with. Pretty much the whole team with the exception of the Rooks were there last year and can talk as much trash as they want. AND they CAN back it up.

November 19, 2008  08:47 AM ET

All of them including the C's young guys need to just shut up and play ball... let the 82 games speak for itself.

November 19, 2008  09:14 AM ET

Who is Quentin Richardson to say anything?? Toughness is battling through the Playoffs and winning the 16 games it takes to come out on top.

Until you've done anything significant in this league, Q.......shut up.

November 19, 2008  09:24 AM ET

Q Rich a gangsta ?
Maybe he can teach Dirk to be tough its obvious Josh Howard isnt teaching!

November 19, 2008  09:26 AM ET

Who are any of the Knicks to say anything? The Celtics are the champs. Tehy can say whatever they want because they did that. What have the Knicks done lately besides embarrass themselves both on and off the court?

November 19, 2008  09:28 AM ET

Dear Quentin,

We don't give a crap about how tough a neighborhood you came from. We're watching a basketball game, not a street fight. If you can't grow up and do your job, then shut up and go away so we can go back to watching actual athletes. Thanks.

Seriously. What does it matter who came from the ghetto or a rough hood? You are a professional basketball player. So start acting like it. I guess D'Antoni has to do some more work to get these Isiah Thomas ideas of being tough out of the Knicks players heads.

November 19, 2008  09:45 AM ET

Really? You want to see what they're going to be saying during the game? You doubt that they are as tough as they are? I got a little bit of a guess.... Rajon Rondo will get killed with a flagrant foul like almost every game (tho never called as a flag), I'll say "they just killed the poor little guy" while I watch it, he'll lay motionless for a few seconds, get up and nail his free throw(s) like nothing happened. Paul Pierce will flip between intense and smirking. Kevin Garnett will be his usual "OOHHHHH MOTHER F***ER" self after dunking the ball. And Jesus Shuttleworth will just lay a picture of consistency with the smoothest stroke in the game currently.

...that's what will happen, Quentin.... trust me.
