During a lengthy interview last week with a reporter from the Sacramento Bee, Shaquille O'Neal said Phil Jackson orchestrated the tension with Kobe Bryant in order to motivate both players. O'Neal said he never had a problem with Bryant. O'Neal also suggested he would be open to returning to the Lakers when he becomes a free agent in 2010. "Keeping his options open, huh?" said Jackson, whose current deal with the Lakers ends after the 2009-10 season. Bryant is signed through the 2010-11 season, but is eligible to opt out of his contract next summer.

I thought Shaq was supposed to retire after the end of his current contract?

Shaq and Kobe sounds nice but I can't see it happening again.

November 19, 2008  09:27 AM ET

Shaw has no beef with Kobe? Then what was that whole how does my arse taste Kobe rap about?

November 19, 2008  09:28 AM ET

Nobody wants Shaq back people would rather take Mourning who is still fit when he returns!

November 19, 2008  09:55 AM ET

Shouldn't Shaq be focused on being the best Pheonix Sun that he can be? Is Shaq starting to feel the itch to move-on already?

November 19, 2008  10:07 AM ET

Of course he is feeling the itch to move on to a better team, the Lakers. Has to be eating him alive seeing how well they are doing without him......

November 19, 2008  10:18 AM ET

Why does anybody listen to Shaq anymore? The man's out of his mind. There is no way in the world the Lakers would take him back after all the smack he talked when he got traded (by the way, he demanded the trade). He's burnt bridges in every team he's left. Even Miami got thrown under the bus after he left. Nobody wants that kind of drama from a notoriously out of shape center in his last days as a player.

you listen to him cause ur commenting about him

I dont see this happening. During the Jazz Suns game in SLC Shaq went to the Utah Bench and shook hands with Coach Sloan and the Jazz staff. It sure looked like a farewell tour to me.

November 19, 2008  10:47 AM ET

The only place for Shaq after his contract is over, is Europe.
He will do great there getting all kinds of attention etc.

He won a championship w/o the lakers and Kobe. They haven't won a damn thing without Shaq.

November 19, 2008  11:17 AM ET

He's too big of a man to apologize maybe this is his way of doing so.

November 19, 2008  11:22 AM ET

Oh but we will Nminor007. When you lose the centerpiece of your franchise, and a center at that, it takes a while to get back on top. There isn't one individual player in the world, not even MJ, who can carry an entire team on his own. Shaq won in Miami because he had D-Wade. He won in L.A. because he had Kobe. Shaq hasn't done a damn thing on his own either so the "they haven't won a damn thing without Shaq" is just getting old. MJ didn't win without Pippen, Duncan didn't win without Parker, Billups didn't win without Wallace, KG didn't win without Pierce. You get my drift.

November 19, 2008  11:35 AM ET

Iam not happy on Shaq comment about Phil, he is blaming the good coach for his bitter relationship with Kobe, now he wants to come back at Lakers land, I don't think so!!! he is a big losser, I like Shaq but he should retire after his contract with the Suns. The Lakers are much better now, they have a solid team that can bring back the Trophy in L.A.

Bravo !

Comments like Nminor007s demonstrate your basic ignorance regarding the Kobe/Shaq/Wade ring situation.

They can't get their minds around the bulk and bluster of Shaq to the real wizards behind the curtains.

November 19, 2008  12:15 PM ET

hahahahha

Shaq will never play for the Lakers again. He is desperate because he knows the Suns is not going anywhere near to a NBA final. So he will end up his career without more titles.
Shaq talks so much about being the best, the most dominant, but he missed so many opportunities because he was lazy and fat. If he approach his shape like Kareen did in his late years on the NBA he would still be a major force on the league.

Shaq is done. He is only news now when he opens his fat mouth.

November 19, 2008  12:16 PM ET

Why are we even commenting on this. Shaq has a better chance of getting pregnant than going back to LA.

November 19, 2008  12:16 PM ET

I'd commented earlier that I was sure Shaq would be interested in returning to the Lakers to end his career there..but unless he was signed for the league minimum with the complete understanding that he was BEHIND Bynum and Mihm (and Gasol) for the center position, he can take a hike. The Lakers are in a zone right now...no internal struggles, etc. The last thing they need is for Shaq to run his mouth off and screw it all up.

November 19, 2008  12:21 PM ET

If he does come back to the Lakers he will be a backup to Bynum and I seriously doubt Shaq and his humongous ego can ever be a backup to anyone.

I love me some Shaq but it aint gonna happen. Where would he play? PF?

LOL
