Yankees may pursue Pettitte

The Yankees long suspected Mike Mussina would stick to his word late last year that he would retire, and the team set out a plan to pursue top free-agent pitchers CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Derek Lowe. That plan doesn't change, though their need was only reinforced with the loss of Mussina, a 20-game winner this past season. The one thing may change is the Yankees' interest in longtime Bronx hero Andy Pettitte, who hasn't been pursued aggressively by the Yankees to this point. Now that Mussina is out, they might start reaching out to Pettitte, who'd like to return after he went 14-14 in 2008. Should the Yankees sign two of the three big free agent starters they covet plus Pettitte, they'd add three starters to the current short stable of Chien-Ming Wang and Joba Chamberlain. It appears now that they'd prefer to have pitching prospects Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy begin the year in Triple-A.

of course...it only makes sense at this point.

I mean they are pursuing every other starter on the free agent market right? Why the hell not?

Good, even as a 5th starter he has value

id take Andy for one more year. Maybe if he can fend off more steroid speculation related distractions, he can focus on staying in pitching shape this offseason. A fifth starter spot is perfect, of course id like to see CC, Lowe, Wang, and(heres dreaming) Peavy ahead of him.

Go for it...one year deal in the $10-12 million range. Even with last year's performance, having Pettitte as your 4th or 5th starter isn't too shabby.

Might as well. If Mussina ain't coming back, what choice do the Yankees have? Better get on that quick, though. He can't be too pleased being the guy they'll take if the guy they really want isn't coming back. And starting Hughes and Kennedy at AAA is a VERY good idea.

Go away Pettitte, follow Mussina's lead, Its time for 4 highly expensive pitchers to join Wang ---- errrr but what about Joba ? " Oh Yes sorry" .... Bullpen

Bring him back, just dont bring in that yahoo manny ramirez. Andy is going to battle hard and give you all he has. I would rather lose with Andy than win with manny. I know its not either or but I cant route for the yanks w/manny.

he'll compete- but he was turrible (barkley accent)
for us last year
If he truly is our 5th starter though-
I think he'd bounce back

The MLB should have a salary cap. This is dumb. Go Rays.
