Romo takes homeless man to movie

A homeless man who goes by Doc was cashing in change at a Cinemark Theatre in Dallas when a guy walked up and offered to pay his way into the movie. He planned to spend his day passing out fliers and accepted a rain check before realizing that he recognized the generous gentleman. Was that Tony Romo?" Doc asked the worker behind the counter. It sure was. Doc, who requested that his real name not be used, hustled across the street to the consignment store that paid him to occasionally pass out fliers and requested the day off. By the time he got back to the theater, Role Model had already started. Romo, who confirmed the story but didn't want to elaborate, waved Doc over to sit by him and his friend. Doc sheepishly mentioned that he hadn't showered in a few days. "Don't worry about that," Romo said. "I'm used to locker rooms." And so the $67 million quarterback and a man who doesn't have $6.70 to his name sat next to each other and shared laughs for 90 minutes or so.

nice article. good for Romo.

November 20, 2008  07:30 AM ET

And all Brady does is get former girlfriends pregnant, date supermodels... etc..
Man.. i hate Romo even more. He is ACTUALLY a nice guy....
It IS good to see these kind of stories come out as unfortunately, we all get tired of the old vikings cruise stories, the bengals jail issues, not to mention PacMan and Vick...

Did Romo spring for popcorn and a soda too? Seriously that is really nice especially inviting him to sit by him.

That really is nice......and probably more entertaining than Jessica.

CNN is inciting hatred for the big 3 for headlining the fact that the Execs flew in private jets to Washington for the hearings.

My opinion: Big waste of space by CNN and a diversion by do nothing politicians that will ultimately kill the economy with inaction. Hypocrites! Take a look at what the Repubs spent flying Palin all over the place in her million dollar wardrobe. Typical BS News thats not news. Just sayin

Is there more movies coming to the people at the big homeless shelter two miles down. Doc sure is the lucky one. Great job Romo

November 20, 2008  08:26 AM ET

Awwwwww.... He deserves a cookie.

November 20, 2008  08:27 AM ET

Hate Dallas.

Like Romo... a lot, as a player and person.

November 20, 2008  08:28 AM ET

Nice move Romo....More athlete's should do the same! I don't like
the Cowboys but Tony is pretty cool and down to earth with his
fame obviously. The guy he paid to get in probably smelled better
than Jessica at times:)

CBS or Fox did a story on Sam Wyche years ago when he was coaching the Bengals about how he would visit the homeless in the morning before they played a home game. He knew them by their first names and treated them as friends. When the media asked him why he did it, he said it reminded him that his problems and challenges were really small by comparison. There are some really good guys in the NFL. Regrettably, they just don't get the press that the jerks do. Sad!

November 20, 2008  08:42 AM ET

At least he was considerate enough to not make him sit through one of Jessica's movies

November 20, 2008  08:44 AM ET

That's what I call having class! Note to Michael VIck/Pacman/_________: Be more like Tony Romo!

November 20, 2008  08:46 AM ET

So, what did Doc think of the movie? Any good?

November 20, 2008  08:47 AM ET

lies, it was jessica's sister in her bumming around the house clothes

We are all familiar with his work with charities/ charity cases...he is dating Jessica Simpson afterall.

In all seriousness, good for him. It's good to see someone out there, especially an athelete, thinking of someone other than themselves.

Poor homeless guy..... I bet he feels like a dropped of hooker.

Another sweet, touching story by Romo. The other one was when he helped somebody change a flat tire on the side of the road. This guy has that down to earth mentality. I remember a story by fans that I met that when Romo was a 3rd string QB. There was an autograph signing by TNew, Witten, and Romo about 4 years ago and all the lines were to TNew and Witten because they were pro bowl players. Romo had about 10-15 fans lined up over and over again on his table and was signing anything and everything they had. That was pretty funny. Now he is a big star but still down to earth.
