Knicks still trying to trade Marbury

Stephon Marbury's days as a Knick are drawing to a close, but the veteran point guard could survive until the new year. Knicks president Donnie Walsh has not given up on trading Marbury, who is scheduled to earn $21.9 million this season. Marbury is open to a buyout and has enlisted the help of the Players Association to negotiate with the Knicks. The two sides met last week, but no additional meetings are scheduled for this week, according to a person familiar with the talks. Walsh will not be rushed into making a decision, especially one that could cost the Knicks nearly $20 million. Another source believes that Marbury won't be released until Jan. 1 because Cablevision Systems Corp., which owns the Knicks, won't have to report the financial loss until 2009. A team source, however, insists that the decision to either trade or negotiate a buyout is Walsh's to make. Marbury reiterated Tuesday that he doesn't know when or if the Knicks will offer a buyout.

Hellooo Knicks management! Trading Marbury will never happen. Get that in your head. How many years have they been trying already. Do you think there are dumb NBA teams out there who would trade for him right now? Hellloooo! Your choices are to play him, pay him out, or just banish him by not letting him attend any Knicks function.

Knicks still trying to trade Marbury...great headline. One that we'll get used to seeing until his contract expires. Just waive the man and spare us the details.

There are very few teams who can accomodate a $21 Million dollar contract. Even if there are teams out there who want Stephon, why would they trade for him?

Any potential suitors would be wise enough to let his situation with the Knicks play out, because for all of Walsh and D'Antoni's tough talk, if the Players Association and Stern force the GM and Coach's hands, he is going to get bought out.

Get paid Steph!!! Like him or not he can still be productive in the league. Chris Duhon is starting in front of Steph, give me a break. The Knicks fans should be mad......and demand the best players are on the floor. This is an issue solely between Dan-Foney and Steph.....what about winning. I know the Knicks are off to a SURPRISING start but they are a better team with Steph on the floor. CHRIS DUHON!!!

Hey here is a thought send that mess with a bow over to Europe to play with Childress in those high school gyms I saw him competing in on SC

November 20, 2008  09:49 AM ET

This story is nothing more then a way to keep the Marbury alive for another day. Everyone on this site should know there are no takers for a Marbury trade and the Knicks don't want to take back contract before the end of next years free agent market.

The person that desided to post this story for comment should be fired!!!!

The Knicks fans saw enough af Marbury the last few years to know that the best place for him is where he is right now, on the far end of the bench with no chance of every getting in the game. Theyre better without him and their start proves it.

Come on.......
haven't we gone through this enough.

There is NO REASON to talk about this anymore- he will
NEVER step onto the floor in a knick uniform again.
Period. The knicks have moved on (right or wrong)

It isn't about who's more talented at this point-
I agree- Duhon is basically a joke. But that isn't the point

A good start doesn't make a good season and the Knickerknockers will NOT have a winning season under D'Antoni. What's more this story proves that it's management, not Marbury, that's dragging this this out. The new management team.

not really sure what a winning seasonis worth ?
- we;re obviously not title contenders.....
so who cares if we win 42 or 30 games ??
this roster will look NOTHING like it is in 2 years
(whether we're + or - .500 now)

- bottom line is we need to see improvement & team play
That would make this knick fan happy

November 20, 2008  11:45 AM ET

screw marbury, screw the coach, screw the knicks; a joke of a organization

November 20, 2008  11:54 AM ET

Why is anyone spending time writing about this!!!

November 20, 2008  11:54 AM ET

Who care any more do what you want Knicks just leave us out of it

November 20, 2008  12:09 PM ET

They are not going to be able to trade the 2nd highest paid player in the league for a guy that doesnt PLAY. Yeah not going to happen. They have to do a buyout.

The start is one thing... finishing is another. It doesn't seem to make sense to have him on the team and not play the man.

He is not producing on the court and his trade value is going down.

You misunderstand, I'm not just talking about this season. I don't think the D'Antoni style is a "winning" style of basketball. This season may be more "entertaining" than last season but that's not my point. I think the next three years will not mean Knicks playoff basketball, conference championships, Finals appearances or titles. That's what I mean by "winning" basketball. I don't think D'Antoni is a winning coach.

Kenyon Martin and Nene from Denver for Marbury ... salaries are close. Given their respective injury histories, it's a risk for Knicks. And Denver is playing exceptionally well these days. But given the cost-cutting approach Denver management has employed over the past six months, they'd likely be game so they could slash their payroll come this summer. Martin might also fit well with the new run-n-gun style of D'Antoni.
