Big 12 could get 3 BCS bids

There is a remote chance this year that Missouri could win the Big 12 title and two one-loss schools from the Big 12 South could end up No. 1 and No. 2 in the BCS standings. So what gives? "There would be three [Big 12] teams in that case," BCS spokesman Bill Hancock confirmed Wednesday. In this scenario, one-loss USC could get knocked all the way to the Holiday Bowl if Oregon State earns the Rose Bowl bid. USC, at 11-1, figured to be a lock for an at-large berth, which would earn an additional $4.5 million for the Pacific 10 Conference. But those plans could change if the Big 12 ended up with three of the 10 BCS slots. The Big 12 would then have two of the four available at-large bids, and a non-BCS school figures to earn another with a top-12 finish. That would leave only one at-large spot left.

I believe there is a rule that a conference can only have 2 teams in the BCS bowls, in the not so distant future Wisconsin was eliminated from BCS consideration after a 12-1 season in 2006

the Tim Donaughys of the world should really pay attention to the Oregon State game. I think that corporate america want them to lose so the beloved USC can go to the BCS because of the LA big market thing. Elitism at it best will come into play. Call it a conspiracy theory if you want. IF if can happen in the NBA it can happen in NCAA football.

Sparky, this scenario actually trumps the two team limit. It is quite plausible given that Florida has little chance of jumping Texas due to their weak schedule.

The Big 12 should get in 3 BCS games... SEC, smesh eeee ceee... If there was a playoff there would probably be 2 Big 12 teams in the National title game... I think we'll see a Mizzou vs. Oklahoma rematch in the Big 12 Championship so get ready for that...

Spoken by an obvious Missouri Homer.

Because Texas Tech's OOC is so rough!

lol good read on that one

the big 12 this year should get 3 spots... usc and penn shouldn't even go to a bcs game over a big 12 school

November 20, 2008  09:22 AM ET

You are a fool. Penn State is better than every team in the Big XII sans Oklahoma (who is just as good).

Kansas, mizzo, and Okie st would beat the mess out of Penn.... and I haven't even put the Big 3 in the picture yet

I think that's accurate. Also, if this is truly JoePa's last year he should get half the National Championship the same way they gave the warden at Nebraska, Dr. Tom (Dr. of criminals?) when he retired because Nebraska DEFINITELY wasn't as good as Michigan (with the BEST college player I have EVER seen Charles Woodson) but yet the powers that be decided there should be a split.

When the Big XII loses their barefoot, overall-wearing image let me know.

Come on, the Big 12 South is the best division in college football this year.

Seems to me you are another bitter, angry and jealous big 10 fan.

Missouri will be lucky to not lose by more than 20 to whomever the Big XII South trots out against them.

November 20, 2008  09:47 AM ET

Missouri might be the 5th best team in the Big 12.

November 20, 2008  09:55 AM ET

if Penn was in the Big 12 or Sec... I think they would be battling just to make any kind of a bowl game... maybe to Aflac or the Jo Pa's last run bowl

Someone has been watching too many Oliver Stone movies

Texas boy is an idiot. They would be either first or second in the Big XII because they have an offense and actually play defense. They would also be first or second in the SEC.

November 20, 2008  10:16 AM ET

I'm not going to say mizzou is a favorite, but you have to give them a chance. With Daniel, Maclin, and Coffman, you have to give them better than "lucky if they lose by 20". They didn't even lose to texas by 20. The tigers won't fall down 35-0 again. They have a chip on their shoulder and I would give them a little more credit. Granted, I am a little bias. I'm thinking more like a 25-75 chance big MO wins the Big XII.

Why shouldn't the Big XII have 3 teams? It's the best overall conference in the country this season....sorry SEC fans, maybe next year.
