Bobcats working on blockbuster?

Sometimes it's not just the moves that are made, but the timing of said moves. This afternoon the Charlotte Bobcats waived two players: Andre Brown and Linton Johnson III. A couple of weeks ago this would have raised no eyebbrows. Teams were cutting their rosters down to the required 15 for the start of the regular season. Now, however, it is more than a little suspisious. There has been plenty of trade talk surrounding the Bobcats, who have made all but public overtures to the New Jersey Nets and the Los Angeles Clippers, and are openly shopping Gerald Wallace in their desire to land a true center to play next to Emeka Okafor. Now they've suddenly waived two players, taking their roster down to 13. Sounds like the Bobcats have a taker, and that in the deal they're getting back more players than they're sending out. According to a couple of well-informed sources the Bobcats have been aggressively working the phone lines as they watch their attendance drop in direct proportion to their winning percentage. It sounds like we could see a huge move made by the Bobcats in the next few hours.

Scuse me while I remain pessimistic. They will go cheap cheap cheap. If they surprise me I will start buying tickets.......there is a ton of them available.

Yuup, they are going in the right direction. They got a new coach who wants his method be followed by the right players. Brown likes to start from the bottom down and is always successful. Of course he will be successful because there are no other way but up if you are in the very bottom. Give him 3 years and maybe that team will be in the middle of the pack. He is trying to bring it all together in 1 year by blowing up the team and getting the personnel that he wants.

What? The Bobcats are looking good in the Blake Griffin/Tyreke Evans lottery. Why ruin it now? Wait, the team needs a center. They had a chance to nab one of the Lopez twins and who did they draft...

I doubt any trade the Bobcats pull off could be a blockbuster but I am curious to see what the 'Cats pull off.

If they really want to make a good move how about starting with moving away from Charlotte. We never wanted you and we want the Hornets back where they belong.

BUT the problem is at the tippy top.....
mr. jordan has been INEPT in his bball management career

I really don't think they'll ever be truly successful while he is
calling the shots.

Who cares about the bobcats!

November 20, 2008  10:45 AM ET

I can't wait to see what they pull off. Should be interesting. Not necessarily productive, but interesting.

You hit the nail on the head there. That is normally the basic headline in The Charlotte Observer. This team has no fanbase in Charlotte because we have an owner that shows up a dozen times a year and a "President" who is basically incapable of recognizing talent. The move the Bobcats need to make is to get some decent ownership, hire some execs that know basketball, and then start over.

MJ has made one boneheaded move after another. Now get who? Camby?or the Lopez kid from jersey that was available during draft?
What premiere center would want to play for Bobcats anyway?? the only solution was to draft a center and groom him. Job well done Mike

November 20, 2008  11:58 AM ET

so you think a deal might actually happen this week.

November 20, 2008  12:12 PM ET

i'd trade everyone on the bulls minus deng, rose, nocioni, and sefolosha for wallace and okafor. not b/c wallace and okafor are that good, but b/c the bulls are that bad.

November 20, 2008  12:14 PM ET

Blockbuster with this sad team.....?????

November 20, 2008  12:45 PM ET

I think that McDyess has made it pretty clear that he's not willing to join any team other than DET.

November 20, 2008  12:51 PM ET

As long as the bobcats keep making stupid draft choices, they will never get any better. They gained NO leverage by drafting Augustine. Could you honestly think he will be any better than Raymond Felton? At best, he could be a TJ Ford type player, but that isn't saying much. I am with Ninja Cool. Brooke Lopez was available and they passed on that opportunity. If they do not get anything for Wallace, it is their own fault. They would not be shopping Wallace if they would have drafted Lopez.

November 20, 2008  12:52 PM ET

Oops.. I think I posted my McDyess comment under the wrong thread but suppose it's still relevant. What I meant to add was that since Marcus Camby is unhappy with being a Clipper, the Bobcats couldn't do themselves any harm by trying to spring him from LA. He's a great defender and that means a lot in the EC. However, he'd be going from one bad situation to another, so I don't really see that happening. They'd need to get more than Camby from LA to givr themselves a chance at this point and, trading away their best player (arguably) isn't going to help them much.

November 20, 2008  01:16 PM ET

If McDycess is the trade then that's no blockbuster.

November 20, 2008  01:43 PM ET

this is the worst posting i've ever read...you should check your sources! they announced yesterday that they were intending on signing Dwayne Jones..
