Notre Dame coordinator to interview with Huskies

Mike Haywood's "personal reasons" for missing Notre Dame practices this week translate to "career advancement." The Irish offensive coordinator will interview for Washington's soon-to-be-vacant head coaching job Thursday, a source confirmed to the Tribune on Wednesday night. Haywood still was orchestrating the Notre Dame offense when the team drubbed Washington 33-7 on Oct. 25, and Huskies coach Tyrone Willingham was fired the next week effective at the end of the season. In the week before that game, Haywood called Washington athletic director Scott Woodward "one of my best friends." Haywood has ties to both Woodward and Washington president Mark Emmert, having worked with both when all three were at LSU.

Good luck Mr. Haywood. I just can't stop thinking, why would you want to try & clean up that mess of a program?

November 20, 2008  07:52 AM ET

I am sure being the HC at WA would be a much better gig than having to deal with Weis on a daily basis.

November 20, 2008  08:25 AM ET

Why would they want him?

sexton i comment on everyone that comments about my insight..no reply. hmmm. Anyway the comments you made about ty looking elsewhere are unfound. go to the hbo interview with Bryant Gumbel. He mention nothing like that. I am tired of people justifying CW presence and bcaause there are biggots that in alumni that have long arms that connected to money you feel that its then ok. the two bcs trips were based on ty's recruits, and santa Clausen has brought forth no gifts with his legendary HIGH SCHOOL efforts. It about winning and CW is the 3rd highest paid. where are the lou holtz moments...how about a "RUDY" moment....how a bout a Dolemite Rudy Raymore moment. Since he wants to do everything to include make calls, i'm sure they have opening as a alter boy. In short someone got screwed. all analyst are pointing the finger and rightful so. keep denying it....works for "W", not a win baby.

Could someone please translate this into English...?

Agreed. Here's the equation as I see it:

More $$$ - fatty ineptitude (Chunky Weis) = better gig

Jamie C...I am not being critical, I honestly don't understand the points you are trying to make and it would not surprise me to see ND lose this weekend.

I was typing kinda of fast sorry for the syntax...your intelligent D. SLIQ and Gari biy figure it out

November 20, 2008  10:20 AM ET

Jamie - look, I really don't care if you feel Ty got a raw deal at ND. I don't care what you think about Charlie Weis. I don't care what you think about ND.
My joke about Ty going to work for EsPN was a JOKE. This is a FAN message board. This year I laugh at the michigan football team & RR. Last year they were laughing at CW & ND's football team.

You say "the two bcs trips were based on ty's recruits" coached by Charlie Weis. Ty's first year (2002) ND was 10-3 with Bob Davie's recruits coached by Ty. The program faltered over the next two seasons under Willingham, compiling an 11???12 record. During this time, Notre Dame lost a game by at least 30 points on 5 occasions. (For perspective, in the previous 40 seasons (1961-2000), Notre Dame had lost by at least 30 points only four times. Bob Davie lost by 30 points only once.) They also suffered a home loss to Purdue by 25 points. Furthermore, Willingham's 2004 recruiting class was judged by analysts to be the worst at Notre Dame in more than two decades.

When a coach gets hired the first few years that coach HAS to play kids the last coach recruited. That's how it works. :)

Yeah, it's going to take the next coach 6 years to flip that program. I wish Haywood all the best if he leaves ND. I don't think UW is the best place to start.

I'm going to start a new college reality show: Flip that football team. Washington is first, then Syracuse. Followed by Michigan & Notre Dame! :)

Go to your local book store and get your Don King dictionary. It's excrimentiliacious!

Why would anyone hire this **** clown? Offensive coordinator from Notre Dame is about as impressive as the Arkansas Spelling Bee Champion.

You misunderstood my comment. The reply is in the previous thread.

Sexton if you had a chance to play your piccolo for the white house or for the local comunity theatre and you hope to be seen by the movers and shakers in your industry which one would you pick? If you could play for the Bengals or the Titans who would you pick? Granted no one made him go to Wash, but the talent pool for ND vs Washington are two different beast. therefore how you are graded would be significantly unique. More resources and tv time (NBC) and alumni backing. CW has it all and hAS not perform, and Ty had it did not perform. With all things equal you keep CW....thats really blows even the Republican minded Skip Bayless's agree. You aint got like it

Haywood will wind up as a head coach somewhere. Thankfully the people evaluating his potential know a lot more about what it takes than boneheads like you...(and I am VERY impressed with the Arkansas Spelling Bee Champion)!

No problem - I feel an Auburn/MSU score 3-2. Irish domination with Jabba calling the plays!
