Redick denies making trade demand

As frustrated as he has been lately, Magic shooting guard J.J. Redick told the Sentinel after Tuesday night's game that he hadn't commissioned his agent to push for a trade again. "What are you talking about? No, never did that," he said, when I joked that he might have to pull back on his latest demand to be moved. Last season Redick, through his agent, Arn Tellem, requested the Magic to trade him as he was chained to the bench. And after falling out of the rotation early this season, he conceded he was frustrated and was locked in Ground Hog Day scenario again. But he continued working and buttoned his lip, sticking with his preseason credo of enjoying the game and his life.

He needs to be out of the NBA..hes an alchoholic, weed head and lacks the class that many NBA players require to be successful. Hes just another overated Duke player

November 20, 2008  08:45 AM ET

He needs to open up his mouth and demand a trade. If you want a chance at the NBA, you won't get that chance sitting at the deep end of the bench. There are teams out there who would welcome a shooter only player. Look at Jason Kapono as an example. Craig Hodges and Trent Tucker are good examples of what he is good at. Demand a trade young man while it's still early.

No Redick need to shut up and play...his time will come.....im so sick of these pro athletes who cry about playing time when they get paid millions......Dont we always tell players to "shut up and play" when they demand trades...what makes JJ so different?

November 20, 2008  09:03 AM ET

JJ just needs to just keep playing. If he works on different parts of his game, besides his shooting, he will get on the floor.

Maybe someone can help me out here... Why is it that so many Duke guys...Well... The white guys anyways... Wash out in the NBA... Or don't even make the League at all???

Its not just the white guys from Duke, its almost all the stars whove come out of there. Besides Brand and Grant Hill most of their guus are either mediocre or busts. Redick should have never even been picked i nthe 1st round and if hes demanding a trade then hes dillusional. They couldnt even get Marbury in return and the Knicks would love to dump that bum.

November 20, 2008  11:00 AM ET

Bottom line is he is what he is.
He's not a starter or an impact player - he's a sharpshooter
He needs to ride out his contract-
make shots when he's called upon........
THEN
when he becomes a free agent- not go to the highest bidder
rather go where he is NEEDED- or a good team - that he can
show he can hit a shot in a big spot and be a necessary role
player that he is. ala - steve kerr
- he certainly could have a decent, long career if he is smart
in his next bball move

November 20, 2008  11:07 AM ET

He needs to work on his defense, if he does he'll play every night.

I'm sure someone must have told him that. This is where the coach should say so publicly.

I'm not disagreeing petey-
but really.....there are a LOT less 'good' defenders in the
league than bad ones.

clearly the coach doesn't like him- for whatever reason-
we'll see if he can do anything if he gets another team
to take a flier on him-
otherwise- D league or McDonalds

Hey moron, wots there to "hype"?. This dude was the best 3-point shooter in NCAA history; That's just a fact by numbers; Like it or not, so what's there to hype?? No he wasn't hyped as a Ben-wallace type defender, or a Josh Smith-type shot-blocker.
ORL knew what they can get (or not get) from him, and still drafted him, so wots this point about white duke guys??
heard of Shelden Williams?? Where he at?

November 20, 2008  11:56 AM ET

I would deny it to after seeing what happened to Ben Gordon

Boozer, Battier, Maggette are not bad either.

JJ Reddick just needs to wait his turn. It will come.

November 20, 2008  12:36 PM ET

He should write his coach a poem that expresses the feelings that he gets while riding the bench. Then maybe the coach will feel so sorry for him that he will do him a favor and just cut him. If he is smart he will trade Redick for a turkey sandwich and an RC Cola.

That may be true jgb, but in Riddick's case the specific knock that is heard from the press and others (even in this post if you read the full story) is that he gets used on defense. So by leaving him in you're trading baskets. He can shot but can't get stops. His man is usually the man that attacks offensively for the other team. He has to know that's the knock on him by now, it's been three years.

I'm saying, because he's usually a very weak defender, if he improves his defense he'll improve his value as a player regardless of the team he's on.

November 20, 2008  01:43 PM ET

Even the picture FN used is Riddick on defense, with a lackadasical look on his face. No strain, no effort, no intensity. It screams, "I'm beat but so what".

November 20, 2008  03:49 PM ET

JJ is doing the right thing. Ron Jeremy does not know how to use talent, He has two players brian cook and jj that can spread the floor for dwight howard to go to work. Those two players would play their roll and give howard the ball so he can go to work. Instead Mr Ron Jeremy would rather let Hedo and Lewis jack up a bunch of well guarded shots, and only pass to howard when they cant shake their defender. Vangundy is the same guy that couldnt find time for Ariza. Look at what he is doing now in la. He is the same guy that gave Damon Jones the green light to shoot Miami out of the playoffs. This coach needs to tuck in his tiddys, i mean pride. And give this man some minutes.

November 20, 2008  06:13 PM ET

just an over-hyped reject who did good in college but sucked in the nba. goes to show you that not all college players are cut out for the nba. maybe he should look for a job in wall street at least he won't on the bench there. ha ha ha?

November 20, 2008  06:52 PM ET

hey espn did you forget that the 3 point line in ncaa is closer than the nba.
he should put up threes and make them when they count or shut up!!!
