Franchione interested in K-State job

It's been established that fired Kansas State coach Ron Prince believed he and his staff weren't given enough time to meet the program's standards. That's up to someone else now -- K-State athletic director Bob Krause said Wednesday night his "end of the season" deadline was loose and there is no definitive date for an announcement -- but it also raised the following question: Is K-State regarded as a good job? A different outlook was necessary. Dennis Franchione, the former Texas A&M coach who admits having an interest in the vacancy, insists K-State is "a great job."

Fran will take his proven formula for deconstructing a program to another unsuspecting school, peddling player medical information to the highest bidder.

Get Snyder back!

I bet Franchione is interested in any job!

November 21, 2008  10:46 AM ET

I don't believe anyone in the Big 12 would give this guy another chance.

I think we saw this coming when somebody, I forget who, did an article on Franchionne that was suppsed to rehabilitate his image and make us feel more sympathetic to him. It was a long article about his personal struggles. It was a touching story.

But, as an Alabama fan, as empathetic as I may be to his personal struggles, I will never forget the way he left Alabama and there is no way he can rehabilitate that episode in his life. I never went on gameday and never even thought of going on gameday with a sign ripping him, like some have done Coach Saban, but Coach Fran has definitely burned his bridges with me and any other Bama fan I know.

Hold the line Joe, just hold that line

Some coaches make terrible mistakes, and what Franchione saw in Texas A&M I will never know. Of course, I'm not biased in any way.

Perhaps playing in the Big 12 is a way to inflict his vindication on A&M?

He saw no impending NCAA sanctions and more money.

And now he is unemployed. It's a little tougher to recruit to College Station.

Fran would take anyjob right now. I am sure he probably wanted an interview as UW and Tenn when he heard they were opening up. next week we will hear he is interested in the Cuse job.

November 21, 2008  01:19 PM ET

Hey Joe I think you should be glad Fran left before he sold the TIDE down the drain like he has done A&M

November 21, 2008  01:22 PM ET

I thought the guy from TCU was the front-runner for the K-State job???

November 21, 2008  01:24 PM ET

I really was hoping the Venerables would get the K-State job so we could get a real Defensive Co-ordinator @ OU

November 21, 2008  01:59 PM ET

If they hire him I believe it will be a great choice. He is a proven winner and could have some very good teams at K-State if the players buy into his system like the players did at UA, for whatever reason the players at A&M never bought into the system. If they can get him, great job!!

Coach Scam is probably a good fit for K State. He is originally from that area, and I could see him finishing his career there. He was a good coach for the Tide and helped the program out of a tight spot. Then he jumped ship, abandoned his players and set the program back five years! I hope he looses every game and gets run out of town on a rail. Maybe he could join DuBose coaching HS. But no, I'm not bitter. ROLL TIDE!!!

November 21, 2008  02:18 PM ET

The only reason he succeeded at TCU was Gary Patterson. We didn't know that then,we do now. Don't hire this moron.

November 21, 2008  02:22 PM ET

Didn't he coach at Pittsburg State in KS?

November 21, 2008  03:12 PM ET

What has this guy done that is so great? He bails on programs and the major work that he has done has been in div2 levels. At div1 the schools that he coached, he was aided when coming into the program by the previous coach's recruitment. When he started to get his own players playing he didn't do that well. That was really at only 2 schools where he stayed longer than 2 yrs, new mexcio and tex a&m. Most of his wins were against teams that were not that great. Against good opp. his record wasn't good. His overall record looks impressive, but he seems to like to jump ship when the work gets hard. Also, he jumps because of the monies being thrown at him. So, K state should ask themselves, do we want a coach who runs when the weather gets bad? The alumni will go for him because of his name, but if you are looking to the future he has some serious issues.

November 21, 2008  04:02 PM ET

So K-State still doesnt have a head coach?

November 21, 2008  04:03 PM ET

Maybe they should get Hilliary she seems to be the name on everybody's list LOL

November 21, 2008  04:05 PM ET

Fran will not be the next head coach at KState. He might be interested, but they have no interest in him.
