Burke could be running Leafs this weekend

Brian Burke could be in charge of the Maple Leafs by Sunday. It could take a little longer, but talks between the former Anaheim GM and the Leafs, or at least between Burke's lawyer and MLSE, are clearly heating up. Burke is spending much of today hunting ducks near Vancouver, but indications are from both sides that he's likely to receive a full-blown offer from the Leafs by Saturday as discussions to get his name on a contract move on to the fast-track.

You knew it was going to happen. I just didn't think it would be this quick.

"Burke is spending much of today hunting ducks"

Hmmm, just an activity or are we looking into his plans for the Leafs?

Didn't he just leave the Ducks? Now he's shooting at them

wow, all this happened so fast. we all knew that it was a possibility at the end of the season. but for all the sudden for burke to just resign, not even a quarter way through the season and start talks with the leafs. well hey good to get him out of the west, maybe the new g.m for ducks will screw them up *fingers crossed*

At least he's not hunting wascally wabbits.

I see they took down that idiotic piece about Melrose. I suppose they don't want their so called hockey experts embarrassed by a bunch of folks like us!

November 21, 2008  12:44 PM ET

Are they sure they don't mean "RUINING" the Leafs?

I dind't thin the terms "hockey experts" and "SI" or "T&R" ever belonged in the same sentence. Why the hell don't they take the Sundin threads off of here?

November 21, 2008  12:54 PM ET

I thought he wanted to spend more time with his family.....that was quick...

November 21, 2008  02:29 PM ET

Ehh, SI's coverage of hockey isn't terrible. Farber and Muir are solid writers. Not SI's fault that the U.S. sports fan **** all over itself everytime T.O., Lord Fav-rah and Drew Rosenhaus open their mouths.

As for the Leafs, they have serious issues at the ownership level. If Burke can get them to listen mebbe they'll get better. Doubt it though.

The sooner the better! A match made in Hades!

November 21, 2008  04:31 PM ET

i feel sorry for t dot fans he's gonna make that t eam worse. he tore van city apart and took over an already good team in duck land when they won

I've heard of 'burning bridges' but.............That's a little extreme, don't you think? LOL

Did they photoshop that picture up there?

Either the cup has grown by 50% or that's Burke's mini-me midget twin.

"Burke could be running the Leafs this weekend" it says. What they forgot to mention was "Burke could be running the Leafs into the ground this weekend". I wouldnt be surprised to see Bertuzzi playing for the Leafs next weekend. LOL.

Bertuzzi looks great in Calgary though. He's already put up 14 points in 20 games in Calgary. He's on pace to score 27 to 30 goals. He still has some game left in him. The Flames made a gutsy move signing him and it seems to be paying off. He's definitely won the fans over.

I vote for B!

Nobody can beat T&R at serving up reheated leftovers. Their three favorite dishes are : Sundin, Shanahan and Khabibulin. Lately, they added a fourth: Burke!

There you have it folks. Four T&R flavours: Sweedish, Irish, Russian and ...dog food!

P.S. I know! I know! Copy & Paste is cheezzy! But, T&R doesn't mind doing it, why should I?
