Peavy may stay with Padres

In the wake of the Padres' struggles in finding the right match for a Jake Peavy trade, Peavy's agent, Barry Axelrod, said that he has not updated the original list of five teams to which Peavy would agree to be dealt. Furthermore, Axelrod said again that the oft-cited list of five that included the Braves, Cubs, Dodgers, Cardinals and Astros was only intended to provide a guide for the types of teams and cities the pitcher might consider approving. "I have not mentioned any other teams,'' Axelrod told SI.com. "We are not the BCS. We're not revising our standings every week.'' Axelrod wouldn't rule out the possibility that Peavy stays with San Diego. "I think there's that chance,'' he said.

Unfortunately for Padres fans, Peavy will be moved at some point. I still believe, out of desperation to slash payroll (thanks to Moores' divorce), Kevin Towers will be forced to take one on the chin and give up Peavy for an unbalanced return. The greatest pain hasn't happened yet for Padres fans unfortunately. I predict still the Yankees will wait to the final second and fleece San Diego by gladly tossing Hughes and Kennedy to the Padres for Peavy in what will be the most uneven and laughable trade of the offseason.

This just in...Cubs still interested in Brian Roberts....whoever they **** they were?

Earth to John Mozeliak! You can still make a pitch here......

The Padres want the world for Peavy..... nobody is willing to give them what they're asking..... so unless they get realistic, yes, Peavy is staing..... But, since the Padres are in the midst of a liquidation Swap Meet, I think in the end, they'll cave and take less to dump his salary.....

*staying

No sale!

If the Yankees do not get any starting pitching this year... or just C.C., watch the Yankees throw everything at the Padres... including a huge contract to Peavy... that neither one can refuse. In the end the Padres will fold and give in.

As a Padres fan, I unfortunately could not agree with you more Sir Robin.

The Braves made the best offer. Towers won't get a better deal anywhere else. Why trade him? He doesn't make that much $$. 14 mil for an ace seems like a bargain.

Great the Yankees give the world and pay the moon for another NL West pitcher that gets crushed by AL East lineups. You think they would have learned from their Kevin Brown and Randy Johnson disasters, both ofwhom had far better stats than Peavy. When he visits Baltimore he'll learn Camden Yards isn't Petco.

No one probably can or will match what the Braves have offered. But most articles still point toward Peavy either going to the Braves at some point or staying in SD.

I agree that I don't want to see the Braves give up the farm for him, but at some point you have to kind of cave and get an ace. Jair Jurrjens is the club's number one at this point.
