Rangers pitchers drawing interest

The Braves, Dodgers and Mets are believed to be among teams that have inquired about Rangers starting pitchers Kevin Millwood and Vicente Padilla. Both pitchers provide viable, reasonably cost-effective options in case those teams strike out on the free-agent market. Each has one year remaining on his current contract. All three of those teams are chasing bigger names, but there's no guarantee they can sign them.

I didn't know the Rangers had pitching. All you heard about all season was their offense.

Their pitchers are probably going to draw as much interest as this story!

I don't disagree- but if you could get millwood for a year
or have to sign Lowe for 4..>??? wouldn't you at least

Haven't you guys heard? The Rangers are going to be the best team in baseball forever starting in two years...

Well. We'll all look forward to that.

it won't be fair.

My thought would be they trade padilla at the trade deadline. He's playing for a contract and should pitch well.

4-5 starters at best. The Dodgers need an ace like Sabathia or Lowe, and a back of rotation guy. If the Dodgers can't get RJ, this is acceptable

November 22, 2008  04:58 PM ET

^^^The Dodgers need an ace like Lowe? I wonder why the NL West sucks so bad. Haha, jk. Don't really think Lowe's an ace, but I think they'd need to sign C.C., Furcal, and Manny just to stay competitive--don't see that happening.

If the Braves aren't interested in being "highly competitive" this year, they have better (cheaper) options than Kevin Millwood. The best thing they ever did was let him go in the nick of time.... then came Hampton.

If the Rangers are smart they will get rid of Padilla and Millwood while they can. Let Millwood go back to the Braves are to whoever wants him along with Padilla. Get some quality prospects and give the rotation to Gabbard, McCarthy, Harrison, Hunter, and whoever else they can get in a trade.

I myself just increased my shares in Billybeer half again as much as I had before I heard the big news. I'm also going to learn how to knock over a cow while it sleeps, and then shoot it.

In 3 years in Arlington, Millwood has a 35-36 record with an ERA of 4.89. Over that time, he was paid $28M. That's "viable" and "cost-effective"? Ridiculous.

The Rangers have pitchers that attract interest from other clubs? Don't those clubs have A or AA pitching internally that they can promote instead?

November 24, 2008  01:08 PM ET

Kevin Millwood? Back in Atlanta? Seriously? Who's next? Denny Neagle?

But seriously, I agree with jgb, in qutoe #3, if not Peay or Burnett, I would take a chance on Millwood, sure!
