Notre Dame's bowl options

Two wins to close the season would virtually guarantee Notre Dame (6-4) an invitation to the Gator Bowl on Jan. 1. A victory against 2-8 Syracuse at Notre Dame Stadium today and a competitive effort at No. 6 USC next week might still land them in Jacksonville. The failsafe is the Dec. 31 Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas, which would gladly take coach Charlie Weis' team even if it lost its last two games.

Don't bring heaven into this, God hasn't liked ND for over a decade. What bowl is Chucky going to anyway, the Olive Garden never-ending Pasta Bowl?

That's worth a chuckle...

The thought of this team playing on New Year's Day nauseates me!

Notre Dame has no business in a Bowl Game ...... I will be at the game today and it is truley not worth the $65 seat

November 22, 2008  12:35 PM ET

Gator Bowl would do well to take them when they go 1-1 over the next 2 games.

Gariboy, pay attention here. THIS is why so many people hate Notre Dame. It isn't jealousy, as ND hasn't fielded a team worth being jealous of in about 15 years. It is because that program is constantly being HANDED things that they haven't EARNED. No team, in any sport, at any level, at any time has ever been given more UNDUE adulation than Notre Dame.

Whatever happened... To the Bluebonnet Bowl???

November 22, 2008  01:38 PM ET

It's true that ND hasn't won a bowl in quite some time, but let's get real about the reasons why. ND played LSU that ended up winning the championship the next year. And in the Fiesta Bowl, ND lost to Ohio State, which ended up going to the National Championship game the next two years. So what matters more? Going to some obscure bowl and beating up on an unknown team, or playing in the prime time and losing? I'd say the latter. While it was clear that LSU and OSU were better teams by far, ND was 9-2 going into both bowls, nearly beating USC in the regular season. In terms of adulation, ND has a long tradition of football, and there's nothing wrong with that. Having won the most College Football Championships and a vast network of fans across the US, Notre Dame has plenty of reasons to celebrate its tradition. ND just needs to get back to where it was in 1990 so it's tradition matches its talent.

Too bad they can't go to the Chik-Fil-A bowl..... it would be outstanding to see a shot of parachuting cows falling in front of CW..... they can use those photos in all ND FN articles next year....
