Mets consider closer options

The Mets are looking into trades for Chicago's Bobby Jenks, Seattle's J.J. Putz and Colorado's Huston Street, and there's no reason to think they wouldn't inquire about Houston's Jose Valverde, as well. However, teams with viable closers have targeted a combination of the Mets' four best prospects: outfielder Fernando Martinez (who's tearing it up in winter ball), plus pitchers Jon Niese, Bobby Parnell and Eddie Kunz, and the Mets are reluctant to trade their premium prospects after dealing four others to land superstar pitcher Johan Santana last winter.

Someone named Putz would be perfect for the Mets bullpen...... it would make it easier for the fans to know what to yell after yet another blown save.......

Wonder if the Mets would part with Fernando Martinez for Joe Nathan. Then the Twins could move Francisco Liriano to the closer role?

This is for sure...the Mets need someone that can hold up the end of a game for Santana or whoever else. I think Putz will be the best choice for the Mets in the short-term.

I don't think Liriano wants to close...He showed the Twins he was born to start.
