Red Sox, Tigers talking deal
The Red Sox and Tigers have discussed a swap of underperforming shortstop Julio Lugo for underperforming pitcher Dontrelle Willis, a possibility that was first mentioned by Nick Cafardo in the Boston Globe. It seems that both teams are checking out the other player. Both players do have talent, both make about $9 million a year (Willis a tad less) and both have two years to go on their current deals. And frankly, this makes a lot of sense. One more thing to consider: Tigers manager Jim Leyland is said not to be all that fond of Willis. Maybe it's just his pitching because he always seemed to me to be a gentleman.

This gets rid of an every day mistake for the Red Sox and who knows they might actually get a year or two out of Willis as a fifth starter. I hope not but they might.

Given the depth of the Sox pitching, they can take a flyer on Willis, especially if they get the Lugo contract off their hands. Hey, they are going to have to pay the money anyway, so why now? Starting pitching isn't exactly a need for them, but he is still young and they seem to be able to get the best out of pitchers.

Leyland knows as much about pitching as Obama knows about foreign policy!, hopefully Dombrowski won't let Leyland influence him when it comes to pitching decision'S concerning the team, that being said, they should make this deal!

What happened to Detroit being so high on their SS prospects?
It would make more sense as a salary dump... but its just trading expensive mistakes...
