Rodriguez to upset fans: Get a life

Heading into his first Michigan-Ohio State game -- where the Wolverines are expected to extend their dubious record with a ninth loss -- he tried to deliver a message to fans who have lost touch. "It's amazing some of the things that people would say (on a message board) or yell at you of a personal nature," Rodriguez said Monday. "You almost want to tell them, "Get a life." "There's a whole lot bigger problems. Look at the economy." College football's winningest team has tumbled like the stock market, losing a school-record eight games and getting beat a Michigan Stadium-record five times at home. For the first time since 1974, the Wolverines will be relegated to watching bowl games.

the man has no passion for what he does.

Get a life? College football is supposed to be YOUR life, Rich Rod. You should be so lucky that you have fans that are passionate about it. Those same fans that need to "get a life" are the reason you are getting paid millions of dollars. And what have you done? Single-handedly dismantled one of the greatest college football programs of all time.

Way to go Rich Rod, why not just say what you really mean. F@#$ OFF Wolverine fans, I don't care about your traditions, I'm doing this my way.

He has ONE more year and if he doesn't produce he's out: you won't see any Chucky Weising at UofM.

The picture says it all, RR is thinking "What the F*#@ am I doing here? Why did I leave WVU, I had the QB & all the peices in place. The kids here can't run any offense, & just forget about the spread option!"

November 22, 2008  09:38 AM ET

Chasin' utleys, you know Carr waould have won 6 games this year. What do you think Dicky Rod Can do next year? 4 wins??

November 22, 2008  09:44 AM ET

This is year one of the rebuilding process at Michigan, but most fans just can't accept that and they whine and complain about the coach. I don't think what Rodriguez said was wrong at all. A coach in his situation needs to be patient even when the fans aren't.

November 22, 2008  10:21 AM ET

Is the bad economy to blame for losing to Toledo? I understand that with the Big three in Michigan teetering on the brink, that external pressures may be rough, but a good coach can get kid's to channel that energy into something positive.

November 22, 2008  10:35 AM ET

The way Rodriguez handled his exit from his alma mater West Virginia should have been a freakin clue to Michigan fans.

November 22, 2008  11:07 AM ET

I told you when they hired this roosterfish to tar and feather him and run the SOB out of town on a rail. Also what ever happen to the throwing of marshmallows at powder puffs teams? Now like MICHIGAN and that SOB RR. I still and always will love MICHIGAN football and their other teams and I know the MICHIGAN has a very young team but RR is not running MICHIGAN football into the ground.

Listen, I understand the anxst of everyone on here, but when it comes to derogatory personal comments on blogs, I stand 100% behind RRod. Being the head coach of an elite struggling football team does not give people a license to attack someone's family, question ones sexuality, threaten someones well being.

If I was in RRod's position, I would want to say more than get a life to these anonymous blog posting cowards... at the end of the day its just sports... its a fricking game people... question his football cred, no need for personal attacks....

November 22, 2008  11:13 AM ET

I am a one of his top critics, but 100% behind RRod on this comment.

Family and personal integrity should be left out of the game.

i know michigan sucks this season so schedule for 2009 vs big ten is all set. what about 4 nonconferce teams ??? im hoping it will be one division aa school and three weak mac teams there will be no norte dame untill 2012. that way young michigan team will get all the skills at the begining of 2009 season

November 22, 2008  11:55 AM ET

As a Nebraska fan, I remember similar comments from former coach Callahan early in his "rebuilding process." That process didn't turn out too well. Hopefully, this won't be one of those comments that comes back to haunt coach Rodriguez.

i know michigan sucks this season and im very sadden about it anyway mich schedule for 2009 against big ten teams are all set what about 4 nonconfernce teams ????? im hoping they play one 2aa school and 3 weak mac teams that way young mich team can get the playing skills before entering the big ten season there will be no norte dame until 2012 ( i know they suck too ) i couldnt find michigan 2009 football schedule thanks

That's right coach. THEY need to get a life.

And YOU need to get an offense, a defense and some special teams.

YOU need to get a win.

YOU need to get some morales.

YOU need some honor.

Oh never mind. I mean this is RR. Look, all of that being said...cause it was fun. This team is atleast 3 years in the making. RR had the farm running on his chances to get the kid that went to the Buckeyes to commit to Michigan when he switched. That was said to be one of the first calls he made. Then, WVU gets a commit from the #6 QB in the country and RR STILL hasn't found him a true option QB signal caller. This offense requires not just a QB, but a different type of offensive lineman to run the thing. You need quicker lineman to pull and help the option work. Give him time guys. If he can lead WVU to victories over major programs in bowl games and successful against everyone else with the lower level of recruits that go there, he should do well and Michigan.

November 22, 2008  12:27 PM ET

he is right all the michigan fans do need a life

November 22, 2008  12:45 PM ET

RR.. always painting himself the victim. It's nice to see he hasn't changed his MO of deflecting legitimate critism from the fans by focusing on the personal attacks against him made by the occasional idiot. I hope he finds it a little more difficult to get the media on board with attacking Michigan fans than he did with getting them all over WVU fans.

biminator: the man has no personal integrity. How can you attack it?

November 22, 2008  01:00 PM ET

I agree with RR in that some folks need to get a life and quit bashing people online cause they wouldn't have the stones to do it in person. I disagree with his bringing up the economy cop out. We all know the status of the nation and we also know our own financial status seeing as we don't all get multi year multi million dollar contracts to do, well, nothing. Which is why we watch sports! To get away from it! But thanks Rich, for giving us a reminder about how bad things are right now. The next time you need to distract people from the horrible job you've done, maybe you can talk about Iraq. Likewise the next time the president needs to address the economy maybe he can talk about your dismal performance.

November 22, 2008  01:34 PM ET

I stated to dislike RR from the start when he came in and started to SPIT on MICHIGAN traditons.
