There's suddenly another open seat in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series now that Joe Nemechek and Furniture Row Racing have parted ways. Though the Denver-based team is planning only a limited schedule for 2009, the opportunity to pilot the organization's No. 78 car could be attractive to several Cup drivers who are currently without rides. Those include sophomore drivers like Rookie-of-the-Year Regan Smith and Michael McDowell, as well as veterans such as Sterling Marlin and Scott Riggs.

i hope to see riggs or smith get another chance. seems like everytime they get into a ride and get comfortable they get booted out. i like sterling marlin but its past his time. let some younger guys get in there

It is going to be interesting to see what happen over the off season.
I have moved from "hating nascar" to a more "wait and see" attitude as to where it stands come Feb. 2009

Put Regan Smith in there and a back row car becomes a middle of the pack car, and perhaps at times a top 10 car.
FLOAT; glad to see you are going to stick around. Try it, you'll like it. LOL

why would anyone consider Marlin for anything.....his day is long done.

November 22, 2008  01:32 PM ET

I wonder if DEI would be interested in Mr. Marlin.

November 22, 2008  01:47 PM ET

How ironic would that be.....DEI having Marlin as a driver.

Please don't associate any drivers with TEI, until they sign. Death Wish!

I like what this writer wrote, "the 78 car could be attractive to several cup drivers who are currently without rides" well DUH! Any driver without a ride now is scrambling to find one, no matter how crappy that ride it is.

If the price is right, she would hire anyone. And by price ,I mean ,CHEAP

November 22, 2008  06:00 PM ET

TEI will be any drivers last resort, and I mean that in many ways! LOL

Little E you hit the nail on the head with that comment. I get it.

I would be glad to have sterlin marlin in a car ... everyone seems to be real quick to axe drivers who are older that 19 hollering "put a young driver in there" well that is what has changed nascar to france car is all these drivers who are still wet behind the ears, give me a driver who is seasoned with lots of seat time. yeah younger drivers have made a wave in francecar but when the chips ae down where ae these kids at??? standing by the car going "what just happened?" look in the past say 10 years at the young drivers who were supposed to be the "new drivers of francecar" where are they now? theres lots of then looking for jobs sweeping the shop, which is where they should of started to begin with.
