Should NHL nix Burke deal?

Wonder how the NHL's general managers feel about Brian Burke announcing his candidacy for one of their jobs - and by Thanksgiving, no less! - after being granted accelerated free agency two weeks ago by Sixth Avenue? If the Ducks' ownership wished to release Burke from his contract that originally ran through the season, that was mighty magnanimous of them, but it doesn't mean Gary Bettman or the NHL was obligated to allow Burke to seek employment at this time. Indeed, the NHL does not give clubs the authority to grant impending free agents their independence in advance of July 1, so why should the league have given permission to Anaheim to do it for Burke, who has been involved in all matters of confidential dealings this season on behalf of the Ducks?

The league needs Burke to get the Toronto job and fix their flagship team. No reason to think they won't just turn the blind eye until all is in place.

Cause Burke and the Poison Dwarf are in bed together obviously.

Could Bettman have told Burke you can't find a new job until start of next season because you still have a contract even though you got a release? Bettmen does s**k though.

The article is inacurate. If a player is released in mid-season (after clearing waivers and yes teams can do that), he's free to sign anywhere he wants. The CBA lays out the rules. There isn't a CBA for coaches, GMs and scouts. Only the Ducks could have prevented him from finding another job, its outside the powers of the NHL. The Ducks filing with the league merely means that if a team talked to him, it wouldn't be tampering, it wasn't the league granting permission. The Post needs to do their homework, that article is a waste of ink.

This is a dumb article. Everyone knew that Burke was heading to Toronto next summer, so he may as well do it now.

If by 'fix' you mean 'wreck, even more than it is already wrecked', then I completely agree with you. Since, you know, that is what Burke does.

Also, the Leafs aren't the 'flagship team'. That title belongs to the Montreal Canadiens.

The league needs to buttout and let this marriage made in Hades to proceed according to plan! It's pre-ordained! They deserve each other! It's called Karma!

I concur as well.

Could the NHL just "nix" Bettman? It would be a Merry Christmas to all.......
