What's wrong with Tracy McGrady?

Tracy McGrady isn't himself these days. Even if he wasn't the first to tell you, a glance at his stats would reveal something isn't right. His average of 15.9 points for Houston is a nine-year low. McGrady is shooting below 40 percent for the first time in his career and has already failed to score in double-digits four times. McGrady, 29, had surgery on his left knee more than six months ago and still grapples with a loss of leg strength. There are 42 players in the league who average more points. Houston is using McGrady more as a facilitator than a scorer. He is the Rockets' best passer. But his average of 4.3 assists is also at a nine-year low. McGrady feels out of sync and suggests he might need a few more touches, a few more minutes, to get going.

T Mac is a scrub real stars shine no matter what.
Wasnt kobe injured yet he performed.
Wade was injured still was top 5 in scoring.
Lebron was injured still unguardable as usual you get my drift.
Mcgrady injured totally out of sync!

McGrady does not need to be the franchise player for the Rockets, all he need to do is help distributing the ball, help Yao, and play some D. If he can manage to stop taking those wild 3s, it could help his field goal % too.

Kobe is currently injured, he didn't want to get his pinky fixed and miss 2 months... so it's always taped up. And I wouldn't exactly go calling McGrady their best passer.... the passes Yao makes, and at his size, are shockingly good and sometimes even flashy... I'd hold off for a bit. But T-Mac.... see if you can trade him. Seriously. He'll likely turn it around in a few weeks, play like he should --- but then chances are he'll twist/break/sprain his ankle on his bum leg and miss a few months and/or the rest of the season. You don't NEED a slasher at the 2, they can get scoring from every single position right now with jumpers and dumping it inside to Yao or Scola...

He just need some sea cucumber stew. That fix things.

November 23, 2008  10:47 AM ET

They should rest him for ten games or something, give him time to recover a little and get some rest. Artest and Yao are more than capable of holding down the fort, and with Battier back soon, and Francis maybe back? The Rockets will be fine in his absence.

I am NOT a Tracy fan.....but kobe hurt a pinky...you cant compare a pinky to a knee.....you can play ball with a hurt pink but a knee injury takes a lot more from you game......TRACY cant be traded.....who wants him with his contract and get value back....this year 21m next yr 23m.......you gotta be in that range and be someone the rockets can use.....the rockets just gotta hope they can keep Artest and Yao together for the next couple years and look foward to T-mac leaving in 10......pick up Bosh he is from TX

HUH??

when has tmac EVER played D?
when has Tmac EVER not been a jump shooter ?
players DON'T change - especially after 10 years in the league

He is who he is...a CHRONICALLY hurt player who can
score (obviously) but NEVER reached his full potential
because he never learned how to really play TEAM ball

- same as Vince, Marbury, steve francis, tim thomas, Melo, etc.
All the talent & game in the world- but they don't 'get it'
- pathetic-

November 23, 2008  11:33 AM ET

he is probably smoking weed with artest. lol. lol.

November 23, 2008  11:44 AM ET

Maybe he is just breaking down after having played since he was a teen. Not that I am a fan of his, having remembered him from his Raptors days here.

November 23, 2008  11:45 AM ET

He's injured. Why should it be a problem if he's becoming a role player to team that's trying to center(no pun intended) around Yao?

November 23, 2008  11:52 AM ET

What's wrong with Tracy McGrady?

*************

You mean besides being a choke artist and injury prone? I don't know...how about the fact that he's overrated?

because he is not a role player.
he cannot simply 'learn' to play another way at this stage
of his career on a team that he has been 'leading' all these years

And how do you build around Yao ?
he's like mcgrady- ALWAYS hurt- you're not winning when
your best player -whomever it is- doesn't play

VINCE!!! I wouldn't insult him. He's averaging 24.1 ppg and the Nets have won 4 of their past 5 games, losing to only the Cavs, one of the best teams in the league.

vince is a mopy turd
vince & tmac ALWAYS could score. No doubt-
but all I care obout is the bottom line.

No titles, no trips to the finals for vince-
with his PURE TALENT- that is a FAILURE and a disappointment

November 23, 2008  01:14 PM ET

Maybe all those years of injuries and playing basketball at the highest level has finally caught up with him? Anyway he doesn't need to score 30 a game for the Rockets to be good, as long as he comes through in the clutch if they need him to.

November 23, 2008  01:35 PM ET

T-Macs game is based on his athleticism. He should take time to heal his knee so he can be a contributor to his team and not a liability.

November 23, 2008  01:54 PM ET

Just like Vince, Tracy has talent but he will never live up to it!
I never liked his style of play this guy has all the abilities but never uses them effective..
And just like Vince he's allways hurt.
Goodbye Tracy ...

November 23, 2008  02:16 PM ET

Rockets have no chemistry. So much for those "Best in the West" labels being thrown around when RonRon joined the bunch

November 23, 2008  02:39 PM ET

all these comments against him.. wowwwwww... some people are forgetting him when he use to be in orlando. he was prob the top 5 best players when he was in orlando.. give him a break. its bad luck that he gets hurt.. and if you got nuts to say that he sucks or bump knee let me see you go out there and play with a bad knee.. not a tmac fan but comeone give him a break. hes not the only one who got hurt. look at grant hill , steve francis and etc.. its not easy to be back to your self again.. i hope lebron get all the injuries tmac have , so than i will ask you guys **** happen now..
